Exactly. First of all, when I say British, I'm covering the accents of the various countries that make up the U.K. Whether they be Welsh, high English, Hackney, Irish, Scottish, whatever. If you say American accent, I as an American knows that East Texas is different from West Texas is different from Southern Louisiana, which is different from the Carolinas or New York or Boston or the Midwest. But they are all American accents and I get what one is trying to say. So stop with the no British accent because there are British accents.
Here's what I'm saying. I watched a movie on Hindu God(s) and everyone spoke this high royal type Shakespearean accent. Why? I've been all over India and no one spoke in this accent when speaking English. One of my gf's best friends is a Croatian woman and her husband is Bosnian. Neither speak English with an accent similar to what is spoken in England. I have been to Italy and Spain and no one there spoke English with an accent as if they were from England except those people that were from there. I've known plenty of Greeks and northern Africans and Persians. None spoke English in an accent from any of the British lands. So why do I watch Gladiator and get all of these formal English accents? Why do I watch Ten Commandments and the Pharoah himself speaks as if he was born and raised in England? There's no disputing that.
