Both of those songs are built around 90s tracks.

The first one is Brian Mcknight, second is Jodeci. Neither sound alike.

I'm not following your assessments here, but they jam to me.
Nah see what we're not gonna do is SAMPLE Brian McKnight and Jodeci for the first few seconds, then slap a basic ass R&B trap beat over it and PRETEND like the songs were 'built' around it :camby:

Those were easily the two most basic tracks posted ITT. At least the other breh had some jazzy shyt sprinkled in his.

The 1st song is built on the BM concept. Fine.

The Jodeci sample in the 2nd song is the structure of the song. The Jodeci sample is playing underneath the entire song. The chord structure is built around it

Here is an acoustic version. No "beat" to critique

Speaking of the devil that's exactly what this song did when they sampled this joint

I posted 2 people who have great natural voices, no studio magic. Catchy songs, good structure, runs, no rap singing, good enough lyrics etc.

If you want jazz, just say that.

Pure R&B is going to always be slower to mid-tempo ballads. It was way too fast for too long and that ruined it. Ironically it took a rapper like Drake to make super slow songs cool again

You literally proved my point. The whole song is to critique, hell, it's even worse because it shows the snoozefest reference tracks they throw a trap beats over and call R&B. Take this slow depressed distressed ass acoustic shyt and compare it to the original. Perfect example on how shyt has fallen off so hard 'snooze n b' :camby:

YOU CAN LITERALLY HEAR THE DIFFERENCE.

Not sure what y'all are hearing but they only sample the VOICE. They made the beat and chord structure around the brief swv acapella. They drop the main chords out every few bars and then bring it back.

Sounds very natural to me. Y'all complaining when dudes are out here now playing CHORDS again instead of just playing 1 finger melodies like we suffered thru for yrs.

Because of some dudes started making some 90s/early 2000s type joints, they’ll label them as SIMPS

:what:
See, you just showed your hand now. Proving you don't listen.

This is NOT the "original" . The songs have the same TITLE, but if you listen, instead of just auto-hating everything, the Jodeci sample is from "Cry For You".

You don't "hear the difference" because you don't even know what you're listening to.

Breh I'm not tryna sit and talk music theory with you :what:. The lengths people will go through to defend their delusion :hhh:

Goddamn USE YOUR EARS the shyt obviously sounds like the rest of the basic ass R&B bullshyt that's out there. The EXACT same sound.

And that changes NOTHING. Shyt is even worse. Soulless as fukk.

You showed your hand. You obviously are biased towards this genre because you've been exposed to this snooze n' b for so long.

You played yourself. I was with you in the premise of the thread, but ppl have posted good music and you're just looking to complain. On top of this, you don't even know what you're listening for.

I can find enjoyable r&b from the 60s 80s 80s 90s 00s 10s and even now. Things evolve, but chord structure, harmony, runs, melody have made their way back.

Hope you find what you're looking for :yeshrug:
