Payin Debts.... N40
Good question
The 1st Amendment protects us from being bound to the rules of any holy texts, but most people don't understand that and vote based on their specific religious beliefs.
If you think the US was founded to be a Christian nation, why do you think the FIRST thing our founders did was make into law "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion.."?
REALLY? So if God didn't punish people for molesting kids, you'd be doing that?
There is a flip side to that too. The founders didn't want government to be running religion either. That's why they don't get taxed. If government ran religion or the other way around you wouldn't have a "democracy" which we have here it would be Theocracy flat out, like Iran. The whole idea was that this country was going to be governed by laws that we could all agree with. That's why religion was thrown in the bushes in the beginning because there was an idea that this was a Free country. Now we all know it didn't turn out that way because these white guys didn't want to be underneath English rule but had no problems with slavery or running off native people from their lands. But in order to get that "peace" from England they needed to appear to be a neutral independent country. So they went to France and other countries to gain allies to protect them from the English. So if we want to recap the founding of the laws....Book of the Dead-Ten Commandments- Constitution.
