Why hasn't a shooting guard ever been drafted 1st overall in the NBA?

Just looked at the history of 1st overall picks and I see every position but 2 guard go 1st overall. 2 of the goats played the position.

Jordan or Kobe is not a SG in the same sense as reggie miller or ray allen even though they get grouped into position. Their role on the court is different.

Yep. It's just weird that 1 has never been taken 1st. I wonder if OJ Mayo could've came straight outta HS would he have gone 1st overall. That thread is what made me question if a 2 ever went 1st.

Lebron is a 3, Rose is a 1, Dirk is a 4. Iverson came in the league as a 1. I thought he came in as a 2 myself. Bottom line is nobody has ever been drafted 1st to play the 2 guard.
