Lack of youth club culture is the answer - goes for black, white, Latino, whatever

It's not even "street culture" - the Germans ain't playing soccer in the street, they are sons of doctors, engineers and professors that simply grow up playing in the youth club system

Plus American youth have many sporting options and have less visibility of successful soccer players... Black kids aren't seeing Balotelli, Sterling, Howard, Altidore as role models... This will change when there is that first random black soccer megastar

lol @ Altidore, he's barely C-level. Sturridge should get a mention above Sterling, he's been killing the European League.

Africans players been killing it for awhile, too. Look up African players not named Eto'O and you understand that natural ability is not enough, in soccer you need a high game intelligence.

Is every German player the sons of rich people? You have many who grew up on middle class, of immigrant decent..etc

What do you mean by "first random black soccer megastar"? Do you mean African American instead of black?
I'm gonna assume he meant African American

And why are you guys naming Balotelli? He plays for the San Antonio Spurs

I kid

Black people's athleticism is overrated...Culture has more to do with why blacks dominate in basketball than anything else...

Notice that except for basketball, blacks don't dominate any other sport that requires a development of great skill...For example, the QB position...How come blacks are not dominant in this position...?

I have read people on this forum state that "the QB position is the hardest position to play in sports"...Now, if blacks are more athletic and just equally intelligent as whites, why haven't blacks been historically successful in this position...? Especially since they dominate ALMOST every single position in the NFL...?

Also, blacks don't dominate the punting position...I am sure there is black child out there who knows he is not going to be a great WR or RB, so he might as well try his luck at the punting position were his "superior athleticism" will get him a smoother entry into the NFL...

No African country has ever won the world cup, and soccer is the number 1 sport in Africa...Furthermore, African players DON'T dominate in the foreign soccer leagues...Africa is not necessarily a goldmine of soccer talent...

Sad thing is, people here are really gonna fall for this obvious troll post. :snoop:

Goetze's father is a professor in Dortmund, Muller's pops was a BMW engineer, etc. Obviously Germany has immigrants and such in the system, but even Jerome Boateng is the son of a football player. My point was just that having good soccer players isn't all just about having poor kids playing street soccer and trying to make it big - it's about having the system in place to cultivate talent and having a culture where kids see a big time soccer career as a dream (regardless of class)

That's my point - athleticism isn't enough. You have to hone your skill and soccer IQ / creativity over years. That means you gotta start young and stick with it (and not be distracted by basketball season, football season, whatever). Right now our kids don't have the incentive to do that on a wide scale. You see some examples like Yedlin, but we need more. It'll take years to develop.

It's funny how Americans' disdain for soccer bothers people so much.
You don't see us complaining about Euros ignoring football or baseball.
It's almost like they need our validation to make soccer really legit:heh:

I doubt the most popular sport in the world needs any validation breh.

Also, the issue is not Americans who don't like soccer - it's the ones who feel the need to constantly say it.

Comes off real salty...

Naw Americans are always the ones to bring up their disdain for the sport. The rest of the world give 0 fukks if America is good at soccer or not. America just hates on things that they suck ass at. America needs to make the rest of the world know that their sport sucks because America sucks at it. Americans are only good at sports they invent for themselves.

There's not a real competitive youth club system....the entire approach to soccer needs to change....children abroad are being groomed to be professional soccer players the second they hit the pitch...in the U.S. that same mentality doesn't exist

Anyway, I feel like this has been discussed on this forum ad nauseam

There are black people from other countries playing in the big name leagues on historic teams.

But none from America, NONE are even the face of a MLS team.

The biggest name in MLS is Dempsey or Donovan. Dempsey being the biggest player internationally. The biggest black player the US has is Altidore.

What is up with this? In high school I played but I was trash. I had no shot of anything.

I mean, pretty much every city or every city over has a rec soccer league, most high schools have one too. I've seen a lot of the black kids I played with just stopped playing. Why tho? I'm sure if wanted to, at least ONE could take over.
The money isn't there here in the states. If they can have an American league that is paying like the NBA or NFL black folks will play. Only reason that blacks stop boxing and playing baseball was the increase in salaries and exposure in the NFL and NBA. Plus the NFL began letting blacks play positions like safety, middle LB, OL and even QB. This really changed the game where more kids began to go to football and basketball.

:childplease: Is that your best reason why?!
U.S. kids dont grow up around soccer and therefore dont appreciate it.

Some will say the money is not there but that is WRONG. There is a LOT of money to be made in Soccer. It's just not necessarily in AMerica. Americans, ESPECIALLY BLACK AMERICANS, need to learn to adapt to the thought of living and being successful OUTSIDE OF THE UNITED STATES. You are not confined to your city or your state or this country. There is a whole world out there to conquer. Get moving

And Altidore's haitian so you can bet he grew up around soccer and soccer lovers in the caribbean community. Most black kids that are really into soccer in the U.S. seem to have some recent foreign ancestry that introduced them to it.
