I always thought this song was dope

And found it funny that you could hear the pain in David Banners voice that black folks left Mississippi and the deep south the fukk behind and now don't even mention or claim the state even though most of us got roots and family there:manny:

Even when the rappers shout out a dozen states and cities in their songs they don't mention Mississippi:hubie:

We from a place
Where ya used to come in the summertime
Now y'all don't mention us in your rhymes :mjcry:

we kin folk:mjcry:

It's funny as hell because it's true. I absolutely did used to visit the deep south with my grandma during the summer as a kid , having fun all day with all my country ass cousins, then went back to the city at the end of the summer where my friends would be like "so where were you all summer?" and I'd be like "In Mississippi:camby:" and they'd be all :umad::scusthov:

I never considered how shyt like that made my country ass cousins feel:mjcry:
And then that shyt talking at the end of the song:mjlol:

Where yo grandmama from nikka?
Yo ol one generation moved away slave ass
booty fukk ass
punk ass bytch
Now come on back home get u something to eat:feedme:
Ol punk ass nikka

:mjlol:

:to:
Same here.....Chicago to Biloxi Beach, MS with gramma and her sister (:rip: :rip:). :whew: That heat boy. I need to get down there in the fall or sumthin

Man, when I was staying in the Sip, it seemed like everyone had fam from either Chicago, Detroit, or St Louis. That’s the path that most freed slaves in that area took. It’s weird, because most in Alabama went out west and today you’ve got folks who live in Cali who say they’ve got fam in Bama and Arkansas.

Most of the black people in cali are from that gulf coast/texas/louisianna/mississippi region that's why there is heavy overlap roots wise with many of those midwest regions.

it's the reason the first place jazz was big outside new orleans was Chicago because of the migration

same thing with mississippi delta blues going to chicago and becoming electric blues->modern rock

We are yall

From the food to the accents to the traditions. We are just the city version. Come thru n visit. Beautiful black women entrepreneur black men. Black businesses left n right. Love.

Just don't do what New Yorkers do and try to flex and be extra. shyt I'll be your tour guide. Stop dealing with them craccas. From 8 mile to downtown Detroit it's black and full of your kin folk.

nikkas in this thread talking about every form of music but rap which is what the OP specifically mentioned :mjlol:

Dallas hasn't ever produced a major rapper either :yeshrug:

The topic was answered. Mississippi gave us the father of all american music, HipHop included.

Rappers of mississippian roots were even mentioned (nas, rick ross, nate dogg, snoop, david banner, big krit etc...)
