The rapper that sells 10k out of his Trunk is doing nothing but that in the streets all day & are accessible... the cats who are already successful mentioned in this thread aren't safe doing the hustle the indie cats do. Kanye down the street selling music out of his trunk in 2012? A robbery waiting to happen & I don't care how much security he has...

Dude. He doesn't mean literally from his car :heh:

nikkas scared to take their careers in their own hand but, brag about blowing a mil on whips :dead: nikkas in here saying you need 9 figures to produce a record :dead: nikkas in here saying radio/tv wouldn't support Jay-Z if he went independent, fukkING JAY-Z :dead: Radiohead self-released their last two albums & self-admittedly have made more money than they ever did before.

Even Prince only went Indie once he lost his pop zeal. Apart from Prince who else (on a major scale) is on an independent?

You'll make more money in the system than out of it.

correct me if im wrong because i very well could be. but in the 90's on Prince tried doing this and was blackballed from radio and mtv for a while. when he left warner brothers. and he can still

pack MSG...

...without a record label promoting him

...without a video on music television programs

...without a current hit song on the radio

...without a typical CD release to promote.

so i would love to see kanye or jayz doing this in this age. when they can put their videos online get buzz for their singles via internet.

You've said the reason why yourself :upsetfavre: Kanye wants MJ level. Jay keeps bragging after every #1 album. They still want to be the biggest artists in the game. Prince going independent was the end of him having th big singles and massive album sales. His music speaks for itself though

They still need radio spins/promo/mass distribution all of which the majors can supply.

Basically even dudes as big as them still need to be out there with exposure for the masses to remember them.

THAT WHY I SAID THE WHOLE JAYZ 500 MILLION DOLLAR shyt IS A FRONT

nikkaS WIT 500 MILLION DISTRIBUTE THEY OWN shyt

thats correct. Jigga Boo Jay is a rich slave to the Whitey.

He aint no boss, and none of the rappers are. Bosses would print and sell their own shyt. But they would also get a red dot on their forehead for even trying.

That constitutes slavery. Doing what other people order you to do.

But dont stress that, a real nikka gets all gitty and excited when he hears Jigga drop "I got 500 billie" line.

Makes him feel all kinds of happy and glad, even tho he sleepin on futons and payin rent.

Thats hip-hop heads for ya. What can you do. :manny:

Ice Cube did that and now he's irrelevant, despite all his money and status. Radio stations weren't playing his shyt and promoting it like they do to anyone on a major.

Ice Cube did not distribute his own shyt.

No one has yet to show me an artist distributing his own music, not even mr. billionaire Sir Paul McCartney distributes his own shyt.
And he's no where to be seen, arguably a top 5 star of all time. Maybe cause he doesn't want to be seen everywhere and him just going indie cause he's 200 years old.

And really if Jay only wanted to release his music and stay relevant with his oldest fans, have no impact on music, not promote any brands or agendas, not be a super pop star well he could probably try just selling his shyt at Target or some shyt like that and online services in the rest of the world.

I still don't know why the fukk he would, seems like dumb nikkas who won't even buy his shyt are the only ones arguing for it.

Why ya keep talking bout CDs

Really what's the last cd u bought

Why don't jayz just release his stuff through iTunes only

All the music for the past year I dowoaded on my computer and just burned to a blank cd

last CD I bought was young Jeezy tm103
I'm one of those people that like to look through the booklet in the CD case. plus when you buy music online your not getting even close to the quality of music a CD provides. I rip all my music in lossless format on to my iPod. now what I look like paying the same price of a CD for a iTunes rip of 256 kbps.:scusthov:

I didn't read the whole thread but the distribution process is not something to be taken lightly... The distributor often takes care of:

-Marketing strategy and creative execution
-Retail planning
-Product sell in
-Product sell through tracking
-Product replenishment
-Production (all the way from creating the artwork to getting the physical product produced off site)
-Business operations
-Stakeholder management & strategic relationship development

And that's just the broad strokes... The sales team, operations team and marketing team at a major distributor can be huge and you need qualified people in order to achieve consistent results, especially in a market where profit is decreasing. You also need an executive team to run the show. That sort of man power ain't cheap.

Could a Jay-z or Puffy do it? Yeah, probably. But it's a huge investment for them to be making, especially when record sales are on the decline and music isn't their primary source of income anymore.

Now, digital distribution... That's a different story. There's a lot of opportunity there for artists to capitalize without the need for a major distributor.

This has always puzzled me about Jay. He's at the position where he could release albums on his own terms, and AG was proof that he could put out outstanding material on his own terms as well. Instead he turned around and signed the 360.

I mean, I understand 150 mill is a lot of money, but nearly everything I know about this dude tells me he'd rather have the recognition than the money. He had more than enough before the deal to match BP3s budget.

It wont happen for two reasons. 1. White folks in positions of power wont ever let that happen. EMI, Vivendi? That's oooooold white money. They know it would be a major threat if cats came together and mobilized. You think they're gonna have some n!ggas from the projects uproot their power structure? They'd do everything they could to shut it down. The money aint in album sales. It's in distribution and publishing.

2. Dudes are too comfortable as artists and entertainers and too beefed out to even come together to make a power move like that. We're too short sighted. Like someone said, it's deeper than rap. Cats make millions, while they make billions. I think dudes in the industry know it would be a sacrifice to revolt like that and they know dirty it is behind the scenes. Black folks contribute trillions of dollars to the American marketplace, BUT CONTROL NO INDUSTRY. We line up for J's and fitteds but dont own the factories that make the fabrics and raw materials. We're consumers - period. We have the numbers, the money, and the power to do it but as long as we stay consumers and not producers, the dynamic will stay the same. They know what kind of power we have - we dont. Just look at American history. Any time brothas mobilized in mass amounts they were murdered, snitched on, locked up - movement stomped out. Look at what happened to the MOVE Organization in Philly back in the 70's, Black Wall Street or the Panthers.

I think ya'll overrate white people's interest in "letting" us do shyt and underrate black people's apathy. If somebody wanted to get it done it would happen. Maybe not on the same scale as Vivendi/Universal but it could work (or couldve before the industry as a whole began to collapse) and everything has to start small

No c00ning, but black folks are the same one who let asians move into the hood and sell us black hair products and chicken wings...simple shyt that we are already good at but stil can't get paid from it. :mindblown: (don't ask me how :troll:). Its not cuz the white man told us not to start these business, black folks just slept on these opportunities.
