Always felt a bit formulaic for my taste, as I got older. I used to think punchy rappers were so dope when I was in high school.

I’ve grown to prefer subtlety, relatability, and game from my hip-hop.
And that's all it really boils down to, nikka wasn't really rapping bout much of nuthn.

Microwave music as they call it.

:yeshrug: Punch line rappers don’t age well at the end of the day.

Nobody gonna really appreciate L, Cassidy, fab discography when it’s all said and done like that.

Op big L just not that great.

Still keep a few of Big L tracks in rotation. I mean its hard to say how dudes should perceive L. Don't feel like he got the chance for his sound to mature. He had the punchlines and all but there was some introspective shyt underneath at times.

Also there just ain't that much material to go off with him. Most of his shyt is posthumous, and that shyt def not his best work.

always think about how he would have aged, i think he was going to have some big records..cool off a bit then get back to the gritty

i dont get the punchline take, yea he used them but he didnt rely on them to fill up songs. Street Struck/Dont Understand/Fed Up are all thoughtful records, he had substance

most of this form consist of people born in the mid 90s and later these days

they don't care about L

but as much as I love Nas, Jay, Pac, Big etc....

if I could hear anyone spit acapella for an hour with some fresh new 2018 ish

Big L is who i'd want to listen to first.

Not saying hes a better artist than those mentioned, but L was just special

He never spit a wack verse

When u watch battle rappers do their thing on URL/KOTD today, Big L is who every single one of them wanted to be as a kid

:manny:

and he destroyed the guy most people consider the Goat and made him look like an amateur

He gets alot more love online than in real life

The fact that his crew showbiz n ag lord finesse diamond d and to a lesser extent OC (he gets a morsel of internet love)gets zero to negligible mentions relative to big l i considered it the contrived after death reverence ....ALL the aforementioned were bigger than L circa lifestyles album and all their shyt got higher praise

....FACTS

You’re obviously not familiar with L’s catalog.

The Enemy
He executed concepts. Ebonics.
He had classic storytelling records. Casualties of a Dice Game. The Heist

He had it all and there’s no limit to what might have been had he been on Roc-A-Fella getting all those Kanye/Just beats :mjcry:

If anything dude is overrated

Yeah he had bars, so did a ton of rappers in NY

Dude barely had one album but people put him in conversations he has no business being in

At least Pun gave us a damn near classic album
If anything, he’s underrated and largely forgotten.
