All music is subjective, so its not a matter of who's better, but I just think saying Stevie wonder is a better just people way of not dealing with darker side. Ray Charles was known as a heroin addict and stuff but even at same time he was known as the only true genius in music.

Not taking anything away from Stevie but I just think he's the safer choice just because he's safe.

Y'all love Michael Jackson but Quincy Jones was behind the production of his best albums but Ray Charles was Quincy mentor.

Question I always wondered

When was ray considered the ONLY musical genius? And it's simple, Stevie had more mainstream hits and is the more popular artist. Why make this more complicated than it needs to be? Stevie also came through the Motown machine which helped his popularity.

If I'm being honest, I can name two ray Charles songs off top and his Pepsi commercial....while I could fill a screen with just Stevie singles, not even getting to album cuts.

Ray Charles is the only musical genius in show business- Frank Sinatra

Majority of his albums in Atlantic has titles like "the genius sings the blues" etc.

They came out during a different time where it was hard for blacks to crossover. Ray Charles crossover with "what I say" and he made that song on the spot during a show because he ran out of music to play

I think Stevie wonder benefits from a time where blacks were more mainstream

Maybe Ray Charles lost a lot of his black fans by doing Country Music

I don't know I'm just guessing

Those country albums were well received from blacks and whites. He took country and turnt it into soul music.

Those country albums were critically acclaimed too.

I think Stevie wonder benefits because he came during a time where blacks were mainstream. Ray Charles came I during the 50s where even if you were good black musician you still got peanuts.

Then you've answered you're own question...even in black households, Stevie was a bigger artist.

I guess I did. Stevie wonder benefits from blacks being more mainstream.

Ray Charles was seen as the true genius that ABC records gave him a record deal that was never heard of before where he can own all his masters and royalties because he was a true musical genius.

I just noticed Ray Charles doesn't get enough love amongst blacks even though he's seen as originator of r&b, soul music.

Ray Charles ever make ‘Songs In The Key Of Life’? :stopitslime:

Aight then :martin:

I didn't make this a musical debate because music is subjective because I could say "the genius of Ray Charles and his country albums is better but music is subjective " but Ray Charles was called a genius for a reason and Ray Charles is the originator of r&b and soul music

Plus, Ray Charles has more critically acclaimed albums than Stevie wonder and Michael Jackson put together.

Also Quincy Jones was behind the production of thriller and Ray Charles was Quincy mentor
