I don't wanna make it seem like Montana wasnt a great QB. Problem is you have people that think he is the GOAT. And he's not.

You can't tell me that Montana is better than Marino. Marino was a better QB in every way, shape, and form. The only reason people say Montana is the GOAT is because "he has 4 rings and is 4-0 in the SB". Cool story. Problem is when you look at the team around him, especially that offense which was way ahead of it's time, it's not hard to see why. Plus he was a perfect fit for the West Coast Offense.

being the best qb in the history isnt about throwing the best passes. it isnt about tight spirals. it isnt about inherent talent

its all about decision making and performance in the league

you are judging qbs off pure talent, when this is not the NBA or MLB.
the goat qb is the one who performed the best. and if you want to be called the goat you have ZERO excuses.

Marino was Peyton Manning before Peyton Manning. There was no greater passer. But he had a shytty team around him. Kinda hard to win when you put the team on your back. The fact that Dan even carried them that far is an accomplishment. Marino was in over his head going up against the Niners team. So to use that against him is foolish. Switch the QB's and put Montana on Miami and the results are disastrous.

Stop giving Montana all the credit for the Niners rings. He plays for another team with a different system, he probably doesnt win shyt. Marino >>> Montana. Hands down. shyt, Peyton Manning >>> Montana

And in this day and age especially, the QB gets most the credit when winning. But there's a reason why San Fran was able to dump Montana and still win with Steve Young, who was a medicore QB prior to his stint in SF.

I'll just end this by quoting the great Bill Walsh who coached the Niners... "Joe Montana was a product of the system. Dan Marino was the system."

First off Marino and Elway has very good squads and could go home with one (well Elway did later on) Montana had a mental edge, just like Brady did to win those Superbowls.

Back to the subject though. Alex Smith is an experienced QB, his only real weakness is his inability to throw long distances. That being said, I think Kaep starts next year. I just think the sample size is too small to just put Kaep at that level yet, though he was very impressive last night.
