Here's Brady's scouting report...

Notes: Baseball catcher and football quarterback in high school who was drafted by the Montreal Expos in the 18th round of the June 1995 baseball draft. Opted for football and redshirted at Michigan in '95. Saw limited action in '96 and '97 and started the past two years. Completed 3 of 5 passes for 26 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in '96, 12-15-103-0-0 in '97, 214-350-2,636-15-12 in '98 and 180-295-2,216-16-6 in '99, when he often shared time with super sophomore Drew Henson. Went all the way against Alabama in the Orange Bowl and completed 34-46-369-4. Unlike many Michigan quarterbacks, Brady is a pocket-type passer who plays best in a dropback-type system.

Positives: Good height to see the field. Very poised and composed. Smart and alert. Can read coverages. Good accuracy and touch. Produces in big spots and in big games. Has some Brian Griese in him and is a gamer. Generally plays within himself. Team leader.

Negatives: Poor build. Very skinny and narrow. Ended the '99 season weighing 195 pounds and still looks like a rail at 211. Looks a little frail and lacks great physical stature and strength. Can get pushed down more easily than you'd like. Lacks mobility and ability to avoid the rush. Lacks a really strong arm. Can't drive the ball down the field and does not throw a really tight spiral. System-type player who can get exposed if he must ad-lib and do things on his own.

Summary: Is not what you're looking for in terms of physical stature, strength, arm strength and mobility, but he has the intangibles and production and showed great Griese-like improvement as a senior. Could make it in the right system but will not be for everyone.

I fully understand why but :russ: at the number of times Brian Griese comes up in this report.

tom brady was the worse thing that ever happened to the NFL.

not only did he give all these scrub ass quarterbacks hope. but he gave all these scrub ass football fans an example to point to of late round qb picks panning out. like nikka...yeah he beat the 1 out of 100 odds. but no one is putting even money on fukkin TJ Yates becoming a hall of fame QB tho.

why is Alex Smith so hated on here :dwillhuh:

he's the 3rd rated passer in the league, but u ppl treat him like he's Blaine Gabbert

The 49ers are able to hide his deficiencies pretty well. They have a good running game and they usually only have him making short safe passes. On long 3rd down plays or late in games when you need to drive down the field, he's really not very good. We alll know he is nowhere near being the 3rd best passer in the league. His pre-Harbaugh numbers are worse than Gabbert's.

I like that Gabbert = Chris Chandler and Ponder = Montana....but Gabbert is rated higher than Ponder.

So Chris Chandler's skill set > Montana's skill set?

Lol, I agree that comparisons are a TERRIBLE way to rate prospects but you can't draw the conclusion you did. Gabbert may be way more like Chandler than Ponder is like Montana.

:umad: Look at the numbers, Ponder played earlier and he's at a better pace at the same stage than Montana. I rated Gabbert higher because I knew he could play in any system and he was better out the box than Ponder talent wise.

Man, Montana is a product of the system.

When it comes to pure raw talent, as not fukking with any of the other GOAT QB's.

:mindblown: wait what ??? montana in his first full season starting led 49ers to a SB win

you are trying too hard to make your predictions look right, instead of looking at shyt objectively.

stop lying to yourself.

the raw talent is useless in the NFL unless you make good decisions. which is #1 thing for a QB.

joe montana was a 'system' qb in notre dame, sf and kansas city right ? :aicmon:

:snoop: His first two seasons, that wasn't the case which is what I am talking about. You can't compare first full season. One was a rookie, the other was in his 3rd year.

Ok lemme put it like this...

I don't wanna make it seem like Montana wasnt a great QB. Problem is you have people that think he is the GOAT. And he's not.

You can't tell me that Montana is better than Marino. Marino was a better QB in every way, shape, and form. The only reason people say Montana is the GOAT is because "he has 4 rings and is 4-0 in the SB". Cool story. Problem is when you look at the team around him, especially that offense which was way ahead of it's time, it's not hard to see why. Plus he was a perfect fit for the West Coast Offense. Guys like Marino and Elway didn't have near the weapons that Montana had, and yet still put up better numbers. But Montana had the better team, so he got more rings. And in this day and age especially, the QB gets most the credit when winning. But there's a reason why San Fran was able to dump Montana and still win with Steve Young, who was a medicore QB prior to his stint in SF.

I'll just end this by quoting the great Bill Walsh who coached the Niners... "Joe Montana was a product of the system. Dan Marino was the system."
