Why does Ryse get hate for the same things the Uncharted series gets praised for?

I've yet to play Ryse but I also don't play Uncharted for the gameplay. To me Uncharted's gameplay is serviceable but i'm around for the Hollywood blockbuster in video game from experience. Uncharted also has a memorable cast of characters. From what I've heard of Ryse the main character is pretty blah.

The main reason I like Uncharted is simply because of the cast........still haven't played UC3 though

Depends on what you like. He's not anymore "blah" than any other muscle neck warrior fighting for the honor of his family. In fact i'd say the Ryse story works a little better with the game because it doesn't have the same ludonarrative dissonance that the uncharted series suffers from.

I will agree that the roman story of revenge is played a little. But @MeachTheMonster has a point. Maybe the story is its downfall. But I do believe the game is better than its reviews.

I think God Of War would have been a better comparison.

Button mashing is only a small portion of Uncharted.

I was about to say this. The real question is, how will critics respond to a next-gen God Of War should the developers still refuse to add some variation to the gameplay?

how long is the campaign for Ryse? didn't someone say its under 10 hours? If so, that's another reason why it doesn't get Uncharted love.

I think the actors did a really good job in Ryse as well, but nobody seems to care about that. They only harp on the shortcomings of the gameplay, the same types of things that get a pass in uncharted.

It is about 10 hours depending on the difficulty, the uncharted games aren't too much longer, if they are at all.

I'm not sure what shortcomings you're referring to. There were few games this gen as brilliantly executed as Uncharted 2.

To be fair Uncharted 3 did get less favourable reviews than UC2. UC2 had the better story.

List the shortcomings of Uncharted 2/3's gameplay. I can tell you been reading on Neogaf a lot because the fact that you said "Ludonarrative dissonance" shows it. I already KNOW what you're going to say just go on and list them.

Repetitive gameplay. Limited weapons/combat options. limited exploration/puzzles.
