Good point.

Interesting too because I always thought Junior was biracial in real-life, but both of his parents are black...well black-ish at least. I will say that their family is more realistic than some shows since Rainbow is mixed in real life and on the show. Andre is sort-of middle of the road, not particularly dark or light...just like his parents. The kids came out in a range of colors like you'd expect from a medium black man and a mixed black woman (even though Tracy Ross is not that light for someone with a white parent) but only one is bi-racial in real life (Yara Shahidi).

The mum looks white. If she's not.. she's close.

Having the mixed mum is also political.

Mixed race people are over-represented in AA roles and in entertainment in general. Not actual mixed race characters though... just the people. That's because of colourism.

Black genetics can produce light, dark, and everything in between. So the Cosby show family makeup isn't out of the ordinary. My own siblings and I range from lightskin to darksin.

That Chris Rock movie, on the otherhand, I think there is a different dynamic going on. Blackness has always been a hard pill for Americans to swallow. Seeing a dark skin black man with a white woman brings out the worst in whites because it is a visual reminder of their own insecurities and genetic shortcomings. It was a fear of dark skin black men getting with white women and thus genetically annihilating the white race that inspired most of the racial antebellum laws in this country. So I think Hollywood casting a biracial person makes the interracial relationship tolerable for white audiences.

Biracial and fairer skin blacks enjoyed a certain level of privilege in this country, to a certain extent, because of their proximity to whiteness. Which is why most of our most "promoted" entertainers look a certain way.
theres no family, where two dark parents are producing dark kids and then damn near white mixed kids, even the features of the mixed kids look biracial, and the hair is very biracial.

what you said that i highlighted is very true

Y'all can't really be black if y'all say that darker skin ppl can't have light skin kids.:snoop:

I'm pretty sure everyone here that's 'black':sas2: have aunts/uncles/cousins even siblings with light skin even though both parents are dark.:ld:
Black ppl come in all shades so I don't know why being lightskin has to = mixed.:what: This is just as bad as having good hair = mixed:why:

I'm considered 'redbone' even though my mom is a few shades darker than me, but neither of my parents are white or mixed.:martin:
all the actors i highlighted are mixed. this isnt assumption its fact.

Agree. That's one of the biggest issues in Hollywood for blacks.

Well adjusted, "normal" and successful black people are disproportionately portrayed with light skin...relative to their share of the population.

I have been saying this for a long time that mixed people are overrepresented in media and elite/wealthy circles because they are the wedge between dark skinned blacks ( who are collectively the most disenfranchised) and whites.

The reason why there is little pushback it’s because, black people themselves prefer seeing mixed people (especially women) than the average brown to dark skinned black person.

If an anonymous market research was to be conducted, I am willing to bet many people would prefer seeing mixed people over the average DS person.

Mixed people especially mixed women are supposed to be aspirational at this point and the blond haired/blue eyed standard of the black community especially in respect to beauty. Dark skinned people just are not afforded range or to be dynamic.

It’s like because they are darker skinned they are instantly attached with the most negative/despicable stereotypes.

For example, while most non BW and mixed women want to stop playing the damsel in distress roles, DS BW are rarely even afforded these roles to even reject it. This is one of the many reasons why I don’t support casting of many DS women in Hollywood.

I’d prefer not seeing any than the same type of BS. Hollywood depends on this racial/colour caste to continue to pump out the movies they produce, it’s their formula. In the meantime, I will seek independent media to fill in the void that I see.

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
My mom is a few shades lighter than Will Smith and my dad is about Michael Irvin's complexion.....yet those DNA tests showed that she's only 8% white (with a tiny drop of Asian) while he's 15+% white. Skin tone is tricky for sure.
this is why i laugh at people who talk science and dna... you have no indication on what your genetic makeup is just by looking at color or what the parents are. you can be mixed with a 70/30 mix and be dark skin with a 80/20 mix.. you never know

These are more often the exception not the rule. Black people love these exception because many like to claim light skinned exist in their family.

How many black people do you know bragging about their dark skinned relatives?

Most light skinned people used in entertainment are biracials in real life. And I Am willing to bet many who look biracial most likely have high white admixture even if they don’t have a white direct parent.

Think of the 10 most popular black shows/movies in America within the past 20 or 30 years and peep who they cast in the main female roles and children roles :sas2:

Don’t y’all dare name black panther neither :pachaha:
Yup that includes shows with recent black male producers as well.

Atlanta, same ish
Black’ish’ same thing

Like I litterally no difference in the characterization of a non biracial BW even if the producer is Black man.

The only shows that show a range of black women are produced mainly by black women. But th on the other hand show an excessive amount of interracial.
