In the Silver Lining
Maybe with Crosby it is a reflection of what his immediate family actually looks like. I used to watch this show some time ago, when i was living in Australia.

So it is basically art imitating the illusion of his real family life, and it is not that hard to figure out. I am a foreigner and i even understand that concept. LOL

Camille was fine.

Black genetics can produce light, dark, and everything in between. So the Cosby show family makeup isn't out of the ordinary. My own siblings and I range from lightskin to darksin.

That Chris Rock movie, on the otherhand, I think there is a different dynamic going on. Blackness has always been a hard pill for Americans to swallow. Seeing a dark skin black man with a white woman brings out the worst in whites because it is a visual reminder of their own insecurities and genetic shortcomings. It was a fear of dark skin black men getting with white women and thus genetically annihilating the white race that inspired most of the racial antebellum laws in this country. So I think Hollywood casting a biracial person makes the interracial relationship tolerable for white audiences.

Biracial and fairer skin blacks enjoyed a certain level of privilege in this country, to a certain extent, because of their proximity to whiteness. Which is why most of our most "promoted" entertainers look a certain way.

:ohhh: Maybe, just maybe, having two black parents

Again, you haven't defined blackness. I asked you to genetically define it. You say two parents that are black but you didn't define what black is.

This woman has "two black parents" and most people on the Coli would not consider her to be black. Not only does she have two black parents, she has a black husband.

the whole biracial argument just goes back to the avantages they get while still getting to claim being black

if the dispora as whole disowns all the passing biracials/blacks that would still do nothing to solve the real problem of white supremacy

While this is true.. i see what the OP is getting at.. Hollywood has always been ass backwards when it comes to casting minority roles..

.They'll cast someone is clearly mixed as full black and vice versa...

Theyll have movies based in Cali with Mexican characters but constantly use Puerto Ricans,, Cubans etc. in those roles as if there was a shortage of Mexican actors in California..
Google Cliff Curtis and see what character he played in a movie:mjlol:

Y'all can't really be black if y'all say that darker skin ppl can't have light skin kids.:snoop:

I'm pretty sure everyone here that's 'black':sas2: have aunts/uncles/cousins even siblings with light skin even though both parents are dark.:ld:
Black ppl come in all shades so I don't know why being lightskin has to = mixed.:what: This is just as bad as having good hair = mixed:why:

I'm considered 'redbone' even though my mom is a few shades darker than me, but neither of my parents are white or mixed.:martin:

Colourism. Simple. That’s the core reason. There’s no accident that it’s mostly female characters.

It’s made somewhat believable when you consider that black families do come in different shades. Especially when there’s 1 dark parent and 1 light/mixed parent - you can get any combination with that.

Take Blackish. From a family of 6, you would only be confident 2 of the family have 2 real life black parents and only one of them is dark skinned.

Good point.

Interesting too because I always thought Junior was biracial in real-life, but both of his parents are black...well black-ish at least. I will say that their family is more realistic than some shows since Rainbow is mixed in real life and on the show. Andre is sort-of middle of the road, not particularly dark or light...just like his parents. The kids came out in a range of colors like you'd expect from a medium black man and a mixed black woman (even though Tracy Ross is not that light for someone with a white parent) but only one is bi-racial in real life (Yara Shahidi).

My mom is a few shades lighter than Will Smith and my dad is about Michael Irvin's complexion.....yet those DNA tests showed that she's only 8% white (with a tiny drop of Asian) while he's 15+% white. Skin tone is tricky for sure.

They tote out some bleached skin hybrid-cac when it comes to roles in movies and shows involving whites.
They don't want a real black looking person on film with their precious cac princess.

fukk them cacs.
