IMO he is Top 5, easily one of my GOAT's, only 3 albums but timeless music. Still haven't heard much that can compete with Brown Sugar or Voodoo and I am an r&b/soul head. The replay value is off the charts on both of them, Black Messiah took a minute to grow on me due to his drowned out vocals (Angie Stone spoke on this). I'm older, 44, so those in my age bracket and bit younger know what an incredible artist D'Angelo is as we were around when Brown Sugar debuted. Voodoo was on a another level, period.
I still play his albums like they recently dropped, recently picked up the Brown Sugar Deluxe (2CD) version even though I have the original cd. Hopefully they make a deluxe for Voodoo with outtakes, acoustics, and remixes. I can remember seeing H.E.R. in concert, after the concert I spoke with her about D'Angelo, she said he and Prince are her idols, and she is a huge mainstream artist of this generation.
