But the reality is he shot 38% in his prime 2x...I understood he took a lot of shots, but others players have shot just as much with way better FG%

The same reason Kobe doesn't have great percentages, because he was the main scoring option and had to shoot a lot to keep his team in the game. You guys are comparing Spudd Webb's shooting percentages to AI?? When the hell was Spudd the "go to" guy on his team, the guy who always got the ball and was depended on to score and get to the rim all the time??
The fact is if you shoot a lot then your percentages are going to suffer big time, even if you're a good shooter. I see a lot of people pointing at stats, but stats don't tell the whole story and they're no substitute for actually watching the man play and seeing all the amazing shyt he could do and the fact that he played with a lot of scrubs.
