i feel you. at the end of the day, for some people it's ignorance. for some it's laziness. i agree that shaming them isn't the best way necessarily.
but the myth that lifting will make you look like a man is very prevalent amongst many females. it is a myth that needs to be debunked and then they can decide what they want to do. the main thing is for people to be educated. Not knowing doesn't make someone stupid though. i put that shyt in the same category as "spot reduction" as far as fitness myths.
but i definitely agree that doing both lifting and cardio are both beneficial. as long as people have the will to at least be active, it's a good first step. after that it's all about education on how to reach personal goals.
I agree with this entire post. You bust those myths by being an example and sharing information/resources (at least that is my approach and it seems to work).
I have noticed that people who never exercise start with cardio because that is all they know then start learning more about exercise and begin to incorporate weights.
