They was hot when Jay wasn’t active. When Jay went on his hiatus you had TI callling himself the Jayz of the South. Lil Wayne almost signing to Jay. And various rappers using his songs as hooks. The game clearly missed Jay. Jeezy had a movement but he wasn’t even the best down south at that time.

Plus the South introduced strippers and Strip Clubm jj8ballCulture to a legion of gameless simps and video hoes became just as popular as rappers themselves.

1.Freaknik...If u wanted to get your dikk sucked and fukk hoes in the daylight that was the place for you

2. I'd blame T-Pain for simping.

The South was more HOH in the 90s with Master P

I mean when he came back that kingdom come album was trash but everything after was straight. Look since 97 when Jay dropped The City is Mine he ran with the crown. Dude kept going platinum plus everytime. Now if dude in the video would’ve said OutKast was bigger I would’ve respected it. But dude said Jeezy. I’m no hater the first 2 Jeezy albums classics. Yeah he was a movement but Jay wasn’t active as his previous years. During that time Jay was the president at the label.

Not really.

And, truth be told, the West Coast has lowkey produced better music than NY for the past decade or so: Kendrick, Schoolboy Q, Tyler, Vince Staples, Hitboy, Alchemist, Madlib, Earl, The Game(he's a clown but never had a dud until his last album), YG, Nipsey, etc.

NY had a better roster of prime emcees/lyricists back in the day but we've fallen from grace for quite some time. I love Pop Smoke but he's not a real emcee like that lol. Griselda's doing well though.
They from Buffalo

shyt don't count

He never really left tho
Black Album was “retirement”, then he dropped Collision Course, another R Kelly collab album, Dear Summer single summer 05, Diamonds Remix, etc
During that stretch and probably up till BP3 time frame, Jeezy was hotter for sure

Yeah, but once the 00s came through, cats were flocking to ATL for a redbone bisexual stripper of their own, and were tricking major $$$ to hoes while catering music towards them. That is why the skill level regress massively.

Jay Z dropped solo albums during the runs of Wayne, T.I., and Jeezy. All THREE were bigger than Jay Z. Jay Z didn't regain his commercial standing until he dropped BP3 and even then Wayne was bigger.

ATL, but rasied in DMV
A lot of people from Atlanta think anybody who speaks proper English has a Northern accent. That would actually include anybody from the DMV on up. They still see you as a Black person talking White. They really need to get away from that out-dated mindset. Some of these people down here hate to even hear you talk, if you're from the North, plus went to college.

With all said, they do have it in for New Yorkers a little more.
