Lyricism and entertainment are not mutually exclusive

What it really comes down to is (usually trendy) beat selection, making sure there's a strong hook in the chorus, and counting bars, the last of that is or should be learned early.

The bulk of rappers don't play instruments or read music, and despite the melody/auto tune yodeling today, don't sing all that well so I don't really think they have a superior "musicality" that lyricists lack.

Yeah, that's what I mean by musicality in rap. Someone like 50 Cent isn't the best MC in the world, but he has the ability to make memorable songs with catchy hooks. That's a skill that doesn't always get appreciated.

A lot of people like to shyt on Nas for his production choices, but if it was really that serious, he wouldn't have the career he has now. He's always known how to make songs.

I get what OP is saying but this ain't really been an issue since the advent of the internet. Which lets you connect to whatever fan base you want.

There is people out there that only want to listen to lyrical miracle shyt. There is lyrical miracle rappers that don't care about making songs for mainstream radio.

I don't really see the issue.

I will say this though....there's a difference between being lyrical miracle....caring about lyrics....and not caring about lyrics or bars at all. As an artist I mean. Off the top of my head I can't think of a single artist that had longevity in rap....that flat out didn't care about bars in some capacity. So yeah, that shyt definitely matters.
