Opening sketch to Vol 2 (his full blown camel dive into the mainstream) said "I aint a rapper, im a hustler, it just so happens i can rap"

Jay only started caring about being taken seriously as an emcee when Nas poisoned his big camel nostrils with the ETHER... IT WAS JUST SUPPOSED TO BE AN EXHIBITION!!!! Hes pretty much been rapping high pitched, fragile and copping pleas ever since
Mind you, dude was one of my favorite emcees from RD through BP1... but these are facts....

Because thats how life is. The more successful you are the more love you get, BUT also the more hate you get.
Its not really debatable that Jay is one of the greatest to ever do it. Where you place him on that list doesnt matter...the vast majority of hip hop fans will have him in their top ten, many in their top 5, and some #1.
Then theres the dough. Mo Money, Mo Problems. And dude has a lot of fukkin money.
Theres the other stuff - The Nets(who gives a fukk if its 1/15 of one percent, its a fukkin NBA team), 40/40 clubs, cool with Obama, etc, etc.
And to top it all off, this niqqa, who is NOT known for being one of the best looking dudes out there, is married to and procreating with BEYONCE. One of the baddest and richest chicks to ever do it.
So thats why a lot of people hate him. It doesnt help that he has no problem bragging about his successes

imo the reason some people dislike him is because he's become GOAT status without having the rhyme scheme of the other GOATs. He's very rarely bodied a verse.

I don't a single Hip Hop fan that doesn't think Allure is a great song. I had the
when you said that. The beat, the flow, and him just zoning out. No one can answer your question without knowing what you consider ground-breaking. But at some point, you are all (Jay proponents and detracts alike) going to have to accept that everybody doesn't love Jay-Z or hate him the way you do. As far as hip hop goes, I'll be honest, most people I've met in real life that don't like Jay-Z are either kids who don't listen to lyrics and think Drake and Wayne are it or people who consider themselves "purists" and live the music...whatever that means.
Then again, the Jay-Z proponents may be worse. Those guys who literally live life vicariously through him.
I do know this though, it's not the OP's fault but we've had this discussion before and we'll have it again whenever Jay decides to drop a new album.

Lies? I love Jay. Reasonable Doubt and The Black Album are two of my favorite albums of all time. He usually comes nice but he never drops mindblowing lyrics. And anytime he's on a track with a bonafide lyricist he gets outshone. I don't hate Jay, I'm just speculating that could be the reason why other people do.
