Cause everyone fell for the Sony propaganda

"Oh we have the EMOTION engine and Metal Gear Solid 2 that won't come out till late 2001" Back in 2000, when the PS2 launch was piss poor and DC had games out the ass.

Gamers, until recently, thought that Sony will be eternal kings with franchises that was heavy on cinematics and movie production values while gameplay was 2nd, made the gaming community pass up on a great paradigm that SEGA was promoting with DC.

20 some-odd years later, most of those 3rd party companies down with the PS2 don't even exist anymore. That decision the general casual gamer did, killed creativity in the long term.

Sega's history of abandoning their previous consoles so quickly made ppl weary if them. Especially when PS2 was on the horizon and was going to be backwards compatible with your PlayStation games which you probably already owned dozens if not hundreds of.

And the lack of 2nd analog stick

Dreamcast was the Biggie of consoles tho. Had a few great years and is remembered as one of the goats because of that

But Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft are the Jay, Nas and Dr Dre's of this nerd shyt. Longevity matters

mIRC held it down for me with the Dreamcast. Only legit games I owned for that system were Sonic Adventure, NFL 2K1, and McC2. Everything else was bootleg. I played Powerstone 2 and CvSNK2 so much I almost felt bad for not actually buying them.

Once the PS2 came through with the DVD player it was a wrap. First thing I ever did with my PS2 is fire up Rush Hour 2. The clarity was :ohlawd:

I always assume the Dreamcast was competing with the PS1 and N64, like they were all the same generation.

That's probably another reason why.

I remember :flabbynsick: reading those video game magazines and they would have those pictures of that Japanese wrestling game "Touken Retsuden" on Dreamcast. I wanted to play that shyt so bad. :mjcry:

I got a bunch of EGM, Gamer's Republic, Gamefan, Next Gen, etc. in storage.

A lot of reasons but it can basically be summed up in, Sega is a fukking dumb company. If you want more you could go with the mishandling of the Saturn launch. The date being moved up and the the 32x existing and it's short life cycle. It's a shame because the Saturn was a decent system and truth be told aged the best of the 3 systems during that generation. But the was Sega handled that generation really eroded the public's trust. The lack of Dvd support and how easy it was to bootleg games on the Dreamcast basically did it in.

Sega of America CEO drove the company into the ground
it was nothing wrong with their consoles or games.

Microsoft should just buy Sega and have them make a new console, and first party games, and they would destroy Sony

Sony only beat them and Nintendo because of money, Sega was always for hardcore gamers, Nintendo catered to kids that's why they were able to survive with the hand held market

The Sega Saturn had system memory like modern consoles, it could connect to the internet, and a feature no other system has had since, you could add ram to the system via cartridge to make it run games like the arcade

Dreamcast had windows on it, better internet, online play, Sega were always the innovators in gaming and can be again they just need the money

There's a bunch of good reasons already mentioned but I wanted to emphasize a few key things. Sega was bleeding money because of the 32X & Saturn mess. The Saturn was a great console, but the problem was (and still the problem) is Sega of Japan didn't release some of those great titles that were exclusive to Japan. It seems they're out of touch with the American market & always fought with the US CEO's because of being stubborn. Also, the Sony hype machine was in full motion back then & fans ate that up. It was terrible because the DC was the superior console if we compare their games during the DC's lifespan & their launch titles.

I've heard this said before & it'll always fit but us gamers failed the DC. The Dreamcast was everything right & good about a console & there's no doubt Sega would've added a DVD player had they been able to stay in the market. They were already planning for it with the prototype below from E3 2000

I can't imagine the games & peripherals Sega would've come up with during this time that we missed. They were always ahead of everyone else
