MMSex, i really don't know what point you are trying to make here.
OP's question was "Why did technology take so long to advance?"
the answer is that technological advancements are exponential.
as time goes by, tech development develops faster because there is more to build upon.
we just happen to be living in the age of the transistor so we are experiencing change way
faster that any other generation before us.

do some research on Moore's Law.

technology in the 1600s relative to technology in the 1300's is significant

communication for one, is the reason tech is blowing up right now

my point is mostly people dont see how much technology has already existed that is getting credit right now

you used the original quote of saying hunting/gathering etc was a relatively insignificant compared to "the Haber Process"

i disagree, in my opinion technology isnt quite that exponential and infact closer to logarithmic as far as impact

salting food has a larger impact than the haber process and that has been around since ancient times.

i disagree with you completely.

hunting and gathering is not an option if you want to develop a society.
farming and herding cattle is what made cities possible.

salting food had a larger impact than the Haber process? :what:
salting food = preserving what little there is.
Haber process = we have so much food we can throw the leftovers in the :trash:

you are missing the point of OP's question.

without hunting and gathering

our brains dont develop past that of apes

without brains there is no society

so imo it is a greater impact than the haber process

without salting food, all the produce made from the fertilizers supplied by the haber process go bad, and never make it to stores(the majority of food is in the form of can goods)

flash freezing food imo >>>> haber process as well

dude...Haber process of growing food allowed for MORE advances in a SHORTER period of time that hunting and gathering!

i'm not trying to diss hunting and gathering. it was great and it kept humans alive, but the ability to have 99% of the population walk away from growing food and dedicating their time to advancing everything else is something you cannot deny was a HUGE game changer and opened more doors.

When it comes to technology, most of the ground work was done years/decades beforehand, the public usually doesn't become aware of it until theres a need for it or somebody finds a way to take advantage of it. I mean honestly even though it doesn't seem like it, technology still moves slow even today.

Most stuff we see today, there was probably a research paper done on it back in the 60/70's, this is esp true when it comes to computers.

A lot of it also has to do with wars....if you look at technological advances they all happened in regions which were relatively at peace. So people could focus on bettering their lives instead of killing each other. For example a lot of technological advances happened in Egypt > Greece > Rome which were the biggest empires of their time. But after they broke apart not much progress happened in their particular region. Like Europe falling into the dark ages after the Roman empire broke apart and most of the progress happening in that era which happened in the middle east. Then you have the Renaissance and industrial revolutions which also happened when there was basically no wars in those areas.

Beat me to it.

Great site explaining it all.
Checkout the timeline part.

Brehs i believe its all in storage. The more we're available to store the less we have the worry about the more futuristic shyt we can focus on.

We store history, knowledge, media, food, clothing, money (bank or whatever), etc etc, all these things couldnt be stored at some point and we wasted hella time always trying to get more of it. That's how it gets exponential. Things are only gonna get better with the more we can put away and not think about.
