nelly didnt exactly kill the beat, but he sure put krs in his place.

thats what it really comes down to, cuz neither of them really went in on-wax. but nelly stayed sonning KRS.

plus nelly's #1 was classic imo.

.

I agree.

I always felt KRS thought he could piggy back off Nelly that's why he dissed him. And it backfired.

Yo Nelly, you ain't for real and you ain't universal
Your whole style sounds like an Ensync commercial.

:pachaha:

KRS killed him with that line alone.

This why we need hip hop history
'Cause if we had it, you knew you shouldn't get with me
I'm free, I don't need MTV
I could smash your click like 1-2-3
You think I care if you plat-in-um
Where I come from, we be slappin' em' uh
Sales dont make you the authority
It only means you sold out to the white majority :bustback:
What you know about seniority you ain't major
Ya whole album appeals to little second graders
Grow up already, before I slap that hiny
And put you out of work like Tavis Smiley
I got that razor tounge, you be on the ground with paramedics saying "We
can't save this one"
I stay alert like red, you keep sucking me uh 'cause you think I'm ahead:eek:
But you ain't street soldier, I'll take one of ya members
Cut off his head and send it to Lisa Evers
We will be here for ever and ever and ever
While you'll be over by next September

The only thing KRS did wrong was to not admit that this was a Nelly diss. This was was the best track out of all them disses and Nelly knows this. Shyt got under that skin yo :russ:

Well if money wise=life then yeah but at the end of the day KRS ONE will be in the history books and discussed today in hip hop(rather it be underground or for historical reasons) nelly will forever been that dude that made tip drill

Nelly is the history books as well as far as popularity goes...

And he made enough money to for his grandchildren....I doubt KRS is living a lavish life fukkin women as fine as Miss Jackson off the strength of his name

Of course he'll be in the history books.

He had a run that was pretty big.

It's only revisionists who think otherwise. Or who think KRS didn't start the beef.

Now that I really think about it, this was an important point in hip-hop.

This was the first time a sellout didn't back down and was willing to do toe to toe with a purist. After this, it was over. This symbolic win planted the seed that selling out was to be accepted. Hip-hop has been downhill ever since. No more balance, No reality checks, Just mindless music.

THIS :krs:

That's not how it happened. Nelly dissed KRS first. It's a shame the misinformation is seen as fact by some.
Thats exactly how it happened.

September 2001:Nelly's song "#1" from the "Training Day" soundtrack gets out.Nelly explains that "#1" is directed at all the people hating on him and biting his style.

April 2002 :KRS One and Tone-def release "Clear 'Em Out" on The Difference compilation that takes a swipe at Nelly's "#1." KRS raps, "You tired of me saying what's real hip-hop? Well I'm tired of you biting my sh** to go pop."Nelly appears on "106th & Park" explaining that he respects KRS One but will come back at him in self-defense.KRS One issues a press release explaining his side of the story. KRS says that "Clear 'Em Out" was not aimed at Nelly and that he did not feel that Nelly's "#1" was directed at him.

May 2002:Nelly records a "Roc Da Mic" remix with Roc-A-Fella artist Freeway on which he refers to KRS One as "the first rapper to get a pension." The song is ultimately released on Nelly's sophomore album Nellyville.KRS One releases "The Real Hip Hop Is Over Here" that disses the music business' corporate structure and calls for a boycott of Nellyville to send a message to the labels who don't respect the Hip Hop culture.

KRS shot at Nelly first.

I don't believe he caught feelings off some soundtrack record. He used that shyt as an excuse to go at Nelly cuz it was easy.

On the Beef DVD he claims to write a diss record "that would end careers" for every rapper in the top 10.

KRS is the king of dissing nikkas for lame reason ala MC Shan. The bridge clearly says "they want to tell u a story bout where THEY come from". KRS saw his opportunity and went it...I don't blame him but he's made a career off chumping lame nikkas like homeboy from PM Dawn...u wanna tell me that nikka started it 2? :camby:
