selling out became "okay" years before nelly came out.

and nelly never sold out anyway. you failed to tell us how nelly sold out.

First off I never said Nelly sold out. I said he is a Sellout. He was never a real mc to begin with, he was created to be a fruity pebble rapper from the start.

Using models to promote your videos, making pop friendly radio music, subpar and empty lyrics/songs , embracing the white crossover, etc. In hip-Hop this is a sellout, he has no integrity in his music it's all about charting and making money. Nelly is the first one to embrace it and not be ashamed of it.

It's a shame that I have to have this discussion and I already know you're on the other end, ready to fight me tooth and nail about nelly being a sellout. Save your posts, I got a report for work I need to do.

Uncertain grounds
neither won

krs was being a hater and didnt win or damage his musical legacy
nelly made a bunch of money after but the battle didnt help his musical legacy since damn near no one remembers it and realistically only a very small % of the people buying his records or listening to his music knew about this and the ones who did were gonna ride with him anyway

mildly entertaining yet completely random and pointless battle overall

brehs, I'm 25 and have never listened to a KRS One album. Heard probably about 10 tracks, only a few numerous times. Bought Country Grammar and listened to Nelly a little bit in his prime.

KRS won. Easy.

Who cares about TV shows, girlfriends, money made off tours where you are with boy bands and so forth....that stuff doesn't go to the grave with you or define your legacy.

KRS' music will live on to a certain crowd even after he is dead. The only way that would happen with Nelly is where songs like "Hot in Herre" come on, and no one will even know that's Nelly, they will just know the song. Whereas people will still be listening to volumes of KRS' discography.

I understand the old school vs new school shyt that goes on here and also the fact that Ruler is annoying, but lets be logical. KRS is greater, and in terms of the battle, he won that. Because if he didn't, then that precedent is too flawed.

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
I'm old enough to remember when KRS was actually considered by a lot of people as #1. On the Beef DVD when he said he had a battle rap written for all the top rappers on Billboard, it meant something. Nobody questioned it becuz Kris was THAT ill. KRS was that nikka and creator of one of the greatest battle rap songs in history. The Bridge is Over was Ether before Ether.

Now, when Nelly dropped that I am #1 record, I'm sure he didn't have BDP's "Still #1" record in mind AT ALL. The part that prolly hit Kris was the "I'm tired of people saying what's real hip hop...[something something] mad cuz their album flopped" something like that. Kris took that as a subliminal. Every old head was waiting for KRS to DESTROY Nelly. I think he dropped a record and it was very underwhelming. Then Nelly had the verse on the Roc The Mic remix which was standard Nelly verbiage but he actually said his name and was trying to be lyrical and it wasn't half bad by Nelly standards. And that song was on the radio constantly. Then Kris has another average diss and it was over. Then nobody talked about it. It was this weird thing. Like, everybody was expecting KRS to kill Nelly and it didn't happen so Nelly kinda won by default but nobody will say that lol
:salute:

this is the real answer to anyone who was paying attention when it happened... and it's also why krs one lost

nobody could wrap their head around it... KRS ONE PICKED A RAP BATTLE WITH NELLY

say that to yourself...

imagine the outcome.......

now imagine if someone told you it was close... even 60/40... even half the people saying nelly won.. :what:

nah.... krs was supposed to mop the floor with this dude. :snoop:

I always wondered why KRS had a problem with that Nelly verse when everyone from Hov to Cam to Nas to Biggie etc had been sayin similar shyt from the jump.

It was a bad look for Kris and the fact that his responses was weak when he's supposed to be a monster was an even worse look. I had to give that one to Nelly just off the strength of the fact that he came out unscathed.

All this proves is a bunch of people here don't know shyt about Hip Hop or battles, people get exposed with the quickness in threads like this. Go and read the comments on the KRS-One You Don't Really Want it to see what people that aren't bafoons and dikkriders think. If I can be bothered I might post myself but a lot of people on here are hopeless cases.

Also the ignorance about what even happened is startling. Never understood why people would speak like they know something when it's pure ignorance, everything I said was from direct sources and can be backed up with facts in regards to how the situation occurred.
