Didn't she have a couple at the Oscars some years ago? I believe they were all ballads.
Exactly. And I even posted a couple of performances where she was just standing there singing.. and people still chose not to acknowledge them. It’s ok to have a difference of opinion, but when people pick and choose what they want to see, debating is pointless.

She's r&b, funny they all started around the same time but only one is still here, lol.

History remember greats at their peak not year by year, Beyoncé is now so you're trying to nit pick why she's not a great. It's funny though that sales by year is your whole argument. Outside of thriller mike got outsold by another artist each year he dropped an album

1979 (off the wall) Billy Joel was the highest seller
1987 (bad) Bon Jovi highest seller
1991 (dangerous) Mariah Carey was the highest seller
1995 (history) Hootie and the blowfish was the highest seller
2001 (invincible) Linkin Park was the highest seller

Do you look at each year and say man mike ain't the king cause before and after thriller he got outsold by artist that came and went? Look at you're example with Mariah and Beyoncé, Mariah also outsold dangerous, so using your own talking points you're also putting Michael down.

What year did Beyonce take the crown? What time frame? When was she a sales leader? You need that peak album.

Dangerous is 7x....Emotion by Mariah is 4x, lol. And sales aside Mike made the best New Jack Swing Album and effectively ended the genre...it was a no compete dagger in the game. Boys 2 men had to fall back and regroup and they went 9x (though it was 2 releases just to sucker people into "end of the road")

YUP. When MJ was out, there was no internet. Only time you saw him was on awards shows or when his videos played on tv. Dude actually had us fixed to the tv waiting when those new Pepsi commercials dropped. There is a new picture, video, or performance by Bey damm near everyday. She is definetly much more commonplace, as all stars are today. I can see why a lot of people say they sick of her. You see her all the time!! MJ? Nah. The lack of technology helped his mystique.

I agree.

It's funny that Jay Z kinda stays low key when it comes to social media, it kinda helps his mystique.

both BAD and Dangerous seems to have outsold these albums with 30+ milion sales WW apiece. Where are you getting your info from:patrice:

In fact selling 30 million back to back maybe a feat on the level of thriller itself

back to back to back, if we include the history album:dwillhuh:

There is no comparison. MJ at 25 was a bigger icon globally than Beyonce is today or ever will be. Michael is the most easily identifiable and renowned figure to walk planet earth not named Jesus. The man broke record after record and regularly had other celebrities speechless in his presence. He had The superior voice, was more innovative, and was by far the superior choregrapher and dancer. You factor in the units he moved and this discussion is borderline disrespectful. The only people deluded over the differences between these two are women born after 1995 and homosexual males.

MJ is MJ. Beyoncé is Beyoncé.

Why can’t people leave MJ’s legacy alone and let Beyoncé finish creating her own? There is no need to compare the two. Beyoncé can be great by herself. shyt is starting to get annoying.

They don’t do this shyt with White artists, though.
Nah every group of white guys gets compared to the Beatles or Pink Floyd

Big Jim on the rhodes

she is. the evidence is that Beyonce is making it hard for Janet to even remain relevant right now :francis:

however this is a closer comparison than MJ.

too many casual observers of both artists chiming in on this debate - dudes that listen to 90% hip hop shouldn't even be in this debate

This part is definitely true

"The omnipresence of social media and reality TV and an endless barrage of media coverage have robbed the general public of the kind of innocence that made adults faint at the sight of Michael Jackson at the height of his pop mega-stardom"
Where would Beyoncé be without this though?? I wouldn’t use social in this article if I were them because that shyt can easily be manipulated to big up someone and devalue another person. We really don’t know who would be the star or stars now if we didn’t have social media.. Ive seen so many careers flame out on some bullshyt. Can’t we just let Beyoncé be Beyoncé without the bullshyt?
