Why aren’t there many programs for black boys/men as there are for black girls/women?

I've seen more programs geared toward black boys than black girls.

The whole National 100 Black Men organization is geared toward black male mentorship.

Including the Collegiate 100

And the Emerging 100

In my city, we have a whole high school, Urban Prep, geared toward the education of black boys. There isn't an all black girls school equivalent.

Every black fraternity has a program dedicated to black male mentorship.

Lots of PWIs have Black Male Initiatives (BMIs)

There are countless programs for black boys and young men.

But you're not the only one on the Coli that doesn't seem to realize that they are out there.

Maybe you should start a follow-up thread asking folks to post any programs they know so we can keep an official running total and spread the word.

The thread is about programs for boys and you posted mostly adult male programs...

:patrice: Uh, yeah, they kinda are.

The answer to op's question had already been partially answered: white supremacy pitting us against each other. (Which is how we end up with so much "these nikkas aint on my level" dumb shyt)

The solution, of course, is for bm to start their own orgs. No one can educate your children better than you.

Sn: i know the sentiment is there, but i wouldn't suggest all boys. If wp are trying to divide us, why would a black org reinforce that division?
Thank you! Programs intended for black boys become so inclusive and filled with agenda that the original intent (to help a marginalized demographic) is lost. Maybe because the establishment does not want black male leaders, especially ones that won't follow the script, and will do everything to subvert that.

The direct implication of this thread was programs for Black children created by Black adults.
Ah, there's the problem.

We as bp tend to assume that a black founder = "a black org." No, funding determines who these orgs really belong to. Ie, Obama proposed MBK, but allocated no government money. So who funds it, and therefore owns it?

Corporate donors. :usure: That also explains why it's not just black boys. :usure:

The Wrong Side of the Tracks
Because, up to a certain age, ALL boys, regardless of ethnicity, like similar subject matter for entertainment.

None of us cared, for instance, what the 'race' of the crew of the Space Battleship: Yamato, or the composition of Science Ninja Team: Gatchaman was composed of when I was a kid. Same thing for Dragonball Z, today.

We just enjoyed stuff getting blown-up and fighting.

As far as social programs, there were equal numbers of boys and girls of all ethnicities attending the various and sundry programs I was involved with as a kid except for PACE (Program for Achievement in Careers in Engineering), which was specifically geared to Black children. Not sure what it's like nowadays, but the focus isn't on ethnicity.

Serious Crab in the barrel shyt.

I also question why so many brehs here feel the need to compete so hard with black women on some of the pettiest shyt.

Petty Labelle ass negroes

:mjpls:
Having parity when it comes to community building makes sense. Imbalances cause community issues, disdain and resentment.
This is not about "competing". This is about the bigger picture.

In my mind im looking for programs that target black boys younger than 14-15

I dont see much of that in your post or in general tbh

Maybe i missed something

Most mentorship program start at middle school level which is the critical age of development for kids.

100 Black Men of America and it's offshoot organizations are not mentorship programs in themselves (except collegiate 100), what they do is mentorship and all have programming that target black boys as early as 7th grade (including collegiate 100.)

I'm on the board of a non-profit program that provides mentorship and targets black inner city Chicago public school kids (both genders). Up until recently, we onboarded kids at 7th grade. We've just extended, within the last year, onboarding at the 5th grade level.

Anything less than middle school becomes a baby sitting session because the kids are not focused or mature enough to understand what is going on (the purpose of mentorship.) Most men that are giving their time are often very busy so there has to be a mutual understanding because they are not there to babysit.

You have to remember after school programs =/= mentorship programs.
