Why aren't Jamaican Dancehall artists blowing up like spanish reggaeton artists have the past year?

you'll hear a lot of artistes deejaying over hip hop instrumentals now

this is an example of a Jamaican artiste over a American hiphop/pop type track. nothing dancehall about this type of song

This is actually a good beat for his flow

It gives an old school dancehall vibe because those songs were heavy with the electronic sounds. Only difference is the drum rhythm

i like popcaan but i don't hear anything like old school dancehall with that song. the instrumental sounds more like something Drake or Wiz Khalifa would be on

Listen to both songs, and you can see they are similar, just one is more smoother then the other as far as flow.

I find Spice so annoying lol.

Watched a few of her instagram videos and vast majority of them when shes out in public are clearly staged and so forced.
Even the ones with her kids, its like she tells them what to say and do once the cameras rolling...Forced hugs and shyt:mjlol:

i see where you're going but i still don't feel that song is really dancehall sonically.
It's not as a whole, but I'm talking about vibes. Plus, dancehall was the first genre that made me like electronic sounds in music, besides 70's music, so whenever I hear "rap" with electronic sounds, dancehall is what I compare it to. I remember rolling with dancehall heads bumping the shyt in rides, so all the sounds used in the music are in my head. And his style of chat is the same as nikkas I grew up with who would do it when we would puff. and start getting creative, so it reminds me of what i lived, I guess.

If the producer changed the drum rhythm, and popcaan's style was more aggressive, it would make the song sound more dancehall. Its little things that can make one song sound like another genre.

The Carribean is the same size as like Brooklyn and Queens, Latin America + some other countries around the world are like 2x US. And that garbage ass music is the only thing they have.

Other than that, we've seen Canadian, British and Bardbadian artists drop big songs that are heavily influenced like Drake, Rihanna, Tory Lanez, J Hus and more

:dahell: No they're not. Cuba + Haiti + DR is bigger than the whole state of NY in Land area.

They don’t call it reggaeton anymore

They call it Latin trap I guess and a lot of it is fire if you ask me

The bytches love it too

But if you can’t inderstand what they’re saying I guess it’s not as appealing

When I hang around my Dominican nikkas they put me on to a lot of fire

They changed the name?

Nah my bad I mean Latin trap is the popular urban Latin Music now

If the artists that were making reggaeton music 12-15 years ago are still making reggaeton music I have no idea

But the Latin trap artists that I’m familiar with weren’t around in the reggaeton days I don’t think

I guess arc angel was but from what I understand it’s a new wave of artists

yall comparing one country to a whole damn ethnicity (maybe even a continent) :mjlol:

Reggaeton is essentially rap music to young hispanics in all countries.
Your better off comparing it to rap music.

Dance hall is pretty successful even then, for some reason reggae and dancehall music punches above its weight internationally. It's just disfunctional and inconsistant as hell for the later.

I know...im just saying OPs question is dumb.

Its a numbers game.
Nothing more, nothing less.

Reggaeton is the poppin music for young Spanish speakers...just like rap is for English speakers.

who said these were dancehall? the cadences are more hiphop (first song could be a modern grime song while h 2nd sounds like crunk from 10+ years ago) even if you listened to it w.o the music

this sounds like dancehall vocally w/ a HipPOP type beat. It doesn't sound like Trap though.
