They think rap fast = lyricism, which isn't true. But tbh a lot of booth posters sound like those same cacs. Some booth posters just look at where somebody is from or how they look and automatically assume they "mumble". It's like a lot of people don't understand that soul that some of these artists have
Big facts. Fast rap doesn't mean GOOD rap, because it's just a matter of knowing how many syllables to cram in a bar relative to the tempo and having the enunciation/practice to pull it off.
Look at the Watsky video that went viral years ago, "pale kid raps fast" or something of that nature, where he's rapping to Busta's "Break Ya Neck". The lyrics made absolutely no fukking sense, but he did what he set out to do. In comparison, listen to the original song by Busta. Completely different world.
A great rapper can drop a great verse regardless of the speed. Biggie is considered the King of Flows, and how often was he rapping like that? Most of his shyt was normal paced or even slower, but immaculate. Speed rap is a technique to be used in certain situations that call for it.
I remember watching a few rap contests, a lot of contestants that were white always defaulted to this flow. There was no originality between any of them, most of them took the same approach to the same beats and only the videos were different. There's so many different techniques they could've used like adlibbing, layering, adding sound effects, even taking a different approach with their delivery and pitch, but they never do it.
Lack of soul. They can’t even make up dances without counting the steps. They prolly be counting the syallbles is each bar to make sure they’re an even number and shyt
They actually do, funny you mention this because I used to kick it on previous forums back in the day where that's how a lot of posters would judge a song by, the multi-syllables and the rhyme schemes. Real shyt, there were posters that were hating on Kendrick Section.80 era because he didn't have enough multies in a song apparently... Even though the album is very lyrically dense and even if you wanted to make the argument, it still had Rigamortis.
I remember when a lot of those posters started getting annoyed with the culture. It was prime Young Money era, GOOD Music era, DJ Khaled with a huge summer anthem era, Nicki Minaj with the pink hair and pop hits era. The "technical fans" were the same people who made Lil Wayne jokes (y'all know the ones I mean, the youtube ones lol), while the mainstream fans would buck back and call technical rap robotic (with a few exceptions).
Being a young black suburban teenager, this was how I was discovering music (on forums) and it ended up forming my tastes to which I still have in certain ways to this day, but they really DO count syllables and shyt like that, they legitimately break it down to a science and toss you if you aren't up to par.
If it's not fast rapping it's the following:
If it's not the following bulletpoints, they don't fukk with it. Hence the fact that rappers coming up (bragging raps ala Cash Money)<<<<<real hip hop. I find it funny most of those type of white fans didn't check for Untitled Unmastered, but big up DAMN
- Demonic Horrorcore shyt
- Gangsta rap from 92-97
- Broke bitter neckbeard looking underground rappers
- MF DOOM stans
- Wu Tang Clan dikk riders
- Canibus super spiritual miracle ass rappers
I had to quote and respond to this one, because this one is painfully true, I don't even know where to begin... I used to be more heavily into the underground scene, and this is 100% what I would find. And most of these people were Hopsin or Tech N9ne fans (no disrespect to either artists). Also a good chance that they were juggalos too, that was really common.
Damn near everyone I saw looked like a white dude with the thin chin strap beard, had a Lids hat, two kids with a tatted up girlfriend/wife, and looks like their truck would smell like energy drinks and cigarettes. Also looks like somebody who'd be in construction or a trade. Rarely would ever come across a black person in these circles, and they all felt like horrorcore spiritual miracle music was the top tier rap style.
And they all rapped like they had sore throats, in order to sound more "raw", not even because that was how they naturally sounded lmao. They wanted to be Immortal Technique and Jedi Mind Tricks badly... Especially referencing the song "Dance With The Devil" (probably because that's the only song they know) and worshiped Vinnie Paz almost. That part of the underground is weird, I'm glad I don't stay in those circles anymore, that never sat right with my soul.
It's a double edged sword, because I feel like it's a beautiful thing for someone like Tech, who's been in the game for an eternity to find an audience. But that same mechanism is the same way someone like Logic or G-Eazy can put out a gold record that you never heard.
But it's also a "curse" in some ways, because Tech has said time and again that he wishes that black people fukked with his music more. But due to the nature of the stuff he makes, a lot of black folks don't really resonate with it. Tech N9ne could perform at a metal music festival and he wouldn't even be out of place, and that's not a diss, but that pretty much says it all. Of course, his white fans didn't really rock with the sentiment of him saying that either, they felt some type of way.
