I was caught red handed speeding through a school zone. I was looking up traffic lawyers and curiosity got the best of me. How is it that traffic lawyers can just get your ticket tossed? I started googling and thought what the hell. I'm going to fight the case myself pro se and see what happens. I'm a little obsessive about shyt so I spent like a month looking up traffic laws and ways to beat a traffic case. I had a whole binder full of arguments and questions to ask the cop about the case. Questions around how he tuned his radar, if he could remember if there were any metal objects around that could have impeded the device, I had multiple pictures of the scene that showed things that could have impeded the radar, manuals of the radar that shows the correct way it must be tuned and questions validating if he operated it or not. I even had maps printed that showed the speeding sign and where I was pulled over so I can verify if the cop could truly remember and if he didn't then how could the court know he was telling the truth. I was UBER prepared.

My first court date the cop didn't even show up. This was my first line of defense because I always heard that if the cop doesn't show up then the case is automatically showed up. I moved to dismiss the case and the judge was like "naaaah I'm going to grant a continuance to give the cop a chance to show up at the next date"

Me: "I object!" (lmao) "If it was me who didn't show up I highly doubt the court would show me any reprieve"

Judge: "Actually I would. Continuance granted"

Damn.

So the next court date comes around and the cop actually shows up. He gets on stand and I start grilling the shyt out of em, going through my all the arguments and stuff I had from my binder. He was so flustered. The prosecutor was looking in bewilderment like.

:merchant:

The cop was PISSED. Like how dare this n*gger come in here questioning me and how I did my job. At the end the judge said she literally have never seen someone defend themselves so well in a traffic case and that she was really impressed....then she found my black ass guilty.

:mjlol:

Afterwards the cop, still visibly upset came up to me arguing about how he actually didn't do anything wrong and how I was wrong blah blah blah. I just laughed at him and said man I know I was speeding. I just did this shyt cause I didn't have much better else to do and wanted to see how it works. This pissed him off even further. I shook his hand and laughed. I held my head high that I defended my self from the evil system even though I lost. I never felt so American.

:wow:

Here is an interesting story i found online.....
I once got a ticket for not coming to a complete stop at 11 p.m. during a freezing rain storm. I approached the intersection, could clearly see no one was coming from any of the four directions, and slowed down just enough to shift into first gear then went through the light. I did this so I wouldn’t go into a skid and since I was going up a hill I knew I would struggle regaining momentum from a complete stop. I went to the traffic court clerk to inquire about changing my court date and she said that my officer only comes in on the first Monday of the month. So I called a week later and changed my date to the second Monday. When I got to court to fight my case, my officer wasn’t there and another cop offered me a plea deal. I said no, I was going to fight this. The judge was livid and scheduled me to be last and told the clerk to call the officer to get his butt in there. He never came and my case was dismissed. Keep in mind that this was in a Podunk town. I’m sure city judges would be on to my gambit.

The 'downside' is spending 5 to 10 times the amount of money fighting the case, but it depends on what you were ticketed for.

if it’s not an offense that will give you points on your license then you’ve only wasted time. You don’t need a lawyer for this.

If it does give you points on your license, you’re paying increased insurance premiums for the next few years. You would likely save money hiring a lawyer.

damn wtf??!?! You would’ve been not guilty in most courts. When I was in court the judge was throwing out cases left and right. :wow:

alot of people don't realize that by pleading not guilty you now have the option to negotiate a deal as well. sometimes you can get a speeding ticket reduced to a parking violation so you don't get points taken off your license for example

This is what I’m getting at. You got people out here committing shyt like murder, pleading not guilty and saying “prove it. :sas2:

please believe imma exercise my rights! My court scene was hilarious. Prosecutor was up there fumbling papers before the judge dismissed it for lack of evidence. :banderas:

I was thinking more along the lines of time off work and/or having to use public transportation for an extended period, not just legal representation. A $50 ticket ain't worth it.

I've gone to traffic court twice in two different jurisdictions. Plead guilty with an explanation/evidence in my favor, got off both times. :blessed:

Had a friend who had a suspended license get pulled over, he gave the officer his brothers name but some how got caught. The courts called him and said he should plead guilty now and get a misdemeanor or go to trial and risk a felony. He was worried but I told him not to sign anything and to risk it. When he went to court to fight it, everything got dismissed. They straight up prey on the poor and less educated

I learned yrs ago to always plead not guilty. Each time I've done that they offer me a deal to lessen my charges. In GA theres something called "too fast for conditions". You still pay the fine but dont get any points added to your record like an actual speeding ticket would, which is all I care about.

Another time I got a ticket for driving on a suspended license the fine was $500. I plead not guilty and they offered to drop it down to a lesser charge of "no valid license" The fine was only $100.

I've actually plead 'Not Guilty' for a violation, but it was because I was right. Got pulled over in a little town named Avon-by-the-Sea. Give the cop my paperwork and he tells me my insurance expired. I was FULLY cognizant of that fact and explained to the officer that I'd just made a payment and was still in the 'grace period'. Dude didn't want to hear it, had my car towed, and gave me like 3 tickets. I get to court, show them my receipts and my policy showing, by law, I was FULLY insured when I was stopped so they dropped the charges and they had to pay to release my car from impound since it was their mistake.
There is usually documents and even a recorded statement of no loss taking from when you reinstate your policy from a lapse. But most cops ain't tryna give you the benefit of doubt to pull out your phone or email to show them. They should just call the God Damm insurance company on the spot and verify.
