The issue is when they try to remake cult classics. You can’t win playing that game.

Nobody says a word when they remake old shytty movies because there’s no following behind them.

I’m watching candyman remake and it’s just bad. Most of them are soulless, bad writing and basicallly bad everything. That remake of total recall was an example. Great first movie with Arnold but the remake with Colin Farrell, I stopped after 10mins. Robocop is another example :scust:

I can’t quite put my finger on it. It’s clearly not the same. Maybe I’m getting old and I grew up on those movies but still :scust:

it works the other way sometimes

it's not really a remake, it's a sequel
Regardless of how people feel about the movie, it's wild how so many people can't seem to grasp this and it feels like they didn't pay attention to either movie. The main character is the baby from the first movie. His mother is in both movies playing the same character. The first movie is referenced throughout. The cutesy industry term is "requel" where's it's a sequel to the original film and pretends everything else never happened. The Candyman requel does have the same issue as the Halloween requel from a few years back, where both movies have the same title as the original when both are essentially new part twos.

Oh, and the Texas Chainsaw remake from 03 is one of the best of that trash franchise and arguably better than the first. It's also more in tone with what people think the original is actually like.

I enjoyed the evil dead remakes and IT

The real reason remakes suck is because Hollywood writers don’t know how to write.

Crazy thing is the movies that come out are always the best written scripts so this is just a reflection of them at this point

Hollywood doesn’t respect the intelligence of its general audience. It’s almost like they don’t want to pay for top notch writing and story telling

Think about it like this:

Why are they doing a remake? Because the writers lack creativity and the studio wants an easy pay day.

So you get current writers that are less creative than their peers from 30+ years ago....and have them rewrite an already good movie.

Take Michael Jordan's whole life. It's basically the American Dream x 10. Now try to re-write his whole life + playing career and somehow make it both different and better.........good luck.
