Why are most modern remakes of movies so bad?

Feel the same way about new Dune movies although will see part 2 opening weekend.

Last week saw 40th. Anniversary of David Lynch's Dune.

The new movie is just soulless and bland compared to 1984 Dune :unimpressed:

:mjlol: you know how much hate there was (and still is) for 1984 Dune? I haven't seen the new one but the old one wasn't much outside the sandworm fx which was cool then.

My opinion is to remake Ok movies instead of remaking good movies. Its much easier to make an Ok movie good, than it is to make a good movie better
Might be something to this. The Evil Dead remake was solid but the OG was goofy to begin with. The franchise in general never took itself too serious

There's lots of reasons. A lot of the OG movies being named were written by great writers or writers/directors who took pleasure in their craft. Studios now often hire directors and screenwriters that are cheap and are nothing more than a hired gun to put what the studio wants out there on a specific date. These directors are good at finishing the product on time.

Then there's the practical effects vs. VFX part of it. Many VFX artists are overworked and underpaid which makes the CGI look like shyt. Practical effects from the 70's and 80's will always shyt on cheap CGI.

I'm not in that group, the producers, writers and cast is unparalleled in '84 Dune.

I was there

You got a two page handout describing all the terms. Launched my love of the books. :mjcry:

I enjoyed the evil dead remakes and IT

The real reason remakes suck is because Hollywood writers don’t know how to write.

Crazy thing is the movies that come out are always the best written scripts so this is just a reflection of them at this point

The new movie is miles better than the 1984 film.

The 1984 movie was camp and tried to fit 5 gallons of water in a 1 gallon bucket. But it was cheesy and memorable for it.
