Why are guns legal?

It just hit me

Why the fukk is it legal to sell weapons meant to kill, whatever it may be. At worst make them available only to certified hunters. This is supposedly an advanced, modern society, yet we hold on to stupid laws from centuries ago. That self defense bullshyt is illogical, if guns are illegal u wont need guns to protect yourself from other guns.

Of course theres still gonna be people with them, and the concern that you wont have anything to scare someone away with, but there are alternatives and honestly, no hard decision doesnt come with a trade off. Your trading a great drop in the availability of by far the most deadly weapon, for a slightly higher risk of someone coming up in your home, MAYBE. Its uncertain how this would really affect crime rates.

I just its really really stupid. Im pretty sure if some aliens came to america an saw guns were legal, they would laugh their asses off and probably destroy the country for all the other reasons we're shytty

every army has helicopters an shyt, plus armed trained soldiers. plus police would make us stay inside so we wouldnt get slaughtered.

Two words. Gun lobby. The people who make guns also pay for politicians and generate mad propaganda which riles up citizens. You are 40x more likely to shoot someone who lives in the house than a burglar, so the whole thing is insane. People actually put their families at risk instead of protecting them.
