Why are Dominicans wholly convinced they aren't black?

Its still just a name for a certain race. It is used to replace negro and the offensive colored as the name of the race.

Cultural identifier for black americans is African American culture if anything.

Yeah. But that was mostly an American thing.

African American is a fairly young term created for the sake of being politically correct. The term doesn't even make sense in the first place

Im sure jesse jacksons heart was in the right place but the term is on some smart dumb nikka shyt

American slave descendants embraced BLACK as a culture collectively when nobody else was checking for it

Tf would they have against AAs?

Most Dominicans came to the US in the middle of the crack era in NYC when NYC hoods were basically hell on earth. Insane amounts of violence, drug dealing, drug abuse, and prostitution, grossly impoverished & underdeveloped areas.

It just so happened that many of the people Dominican immigrants saw participating in these acts were african american. Most Dominican immigrants have no real knowledge of American history outside of George Washington, Bill of Right, & July 4th. They have no true understanding of white supremacy and how that the American government made a concerted effort to keep black people in America as a permanent underclass. As a result Dominicans associated those crimes with black instead of poor/

Tie that in with the white media brainwashing and you have a signifant amount of the Dominican immigrants who view Black Americans through a white supremacist lens

Antihaitianismo. Only Haitians are considered "black" and it's a derogatory term.

not necessarily.

to Dominicans and many people from the Caribbean, black = African American

if you were to ask a Dominican if they have a significant amount of African Ancestry the general answer would be yes

Contrary to popular belief, Dominicans take great pride in the African roots of our culture.

The term African American or Afro American is a nationality so it makes sense.

Black is the name of a race so that makes sense as well.

We did not embrace black as a "culture" We embraced the concept of race and with it accepted that we are apart of the black race which is worldwide and not just AAs.

The only "culture" we embraced was our Afro American culture.

That is just wrong lol. They need to educate themselves on race if they are gonna get into it lol.

Yet I still see that many of them know that black is a race and not just AAs are black but dont want to be grouped in with us so they deny it lol.

But its not like Dominicans have a flattering reputation as well. They have plenty of gangs ( here and in D.R) and are always associated with drug dealing and smuggling

which is what bugs me as a Dominican American that identifies as black \

the same stereotypes that whites supremacists have about Black people they have about Dominicans

We never accepted African American as a people. That term was imposed on us your talking about a term that was created in the late eighties lol.

We as a people embraced "black" at a time when others in the diaspora identified with their home country/island

We did embrace the term African American as our nationality.

Its just that thanks to the concept of race we embraced our race too and reached out to connect to other blacks in the African diaspora.

Some of which denied our request to unify by denying race. :sas2:

Right? :mjlol:
I mean I don't condone the animosity that exists between Dominicans and Haitians but i understand the reasoning, given their Islands being in such close proximity with each other, & their history, conflict is pretty much inevitable. But wtf did we do? How did we get dragged into this?:mjlol:

There was never a intra level cultural embracement movement behind "African American"

The last time we defined ourselves as a people, with no regards to being politically correct, was with being Black. No other diasporan group vouched for "black" in the same fashion

Its to the point that when you think/say black, American black culture is the first thing to come to mind

We embraced the term African American as our nationality for years lol.

Us calling ourselves black was us getting into the concept of race. No more no less.

Your hyping it up to be something its not lol.

When you say black you think of black people all over the world and not just AAs, if you are fully knowledgeable about race.

If you only think of AAs as black then thats you not understanding what race is. :sas1:

No shyt dumb ass , most blacks in the country are Afro Americans so why wouldnt that come to ones mind? You go out of the country and its totally different.

I mean , it really isnt rocket science.

I'll break it down barney style

The whole concept of everyone from Compton to Nigeria identifying as being black is fairly recent. And is synced with America being the premier world stage. How we defined race was imposed on the rest of the world.When we sneeze the rest of the world catches a cold. When americans became black so did the rest of the world/diaspora. Africans and caribbeans defined themselves by country. And even more so by tribe

African/afro American was simply a pc term jesse Jackson created in the hopes of given us a proper national identity. There was no culture or overall cosign given to it like what happened with our "BLACK" identity in the seventies

Races are negroid,Caucasoid and mongloid. That whole black and white shyt is mainly defined by america

You mean the concept of race is fairly recent.

Before the concept of race people only identified by nationality.

Negroid = Black
Caucasoid = White
Mongloid = Asian

Same thing just different names.

If you or anybody doesnt believe in the concept of race then just say that.

Dont say that you arent black and AAs are black if you dont believe in the concept of race at all. :dead:
