If blacks in Montreal had bought the properties in the Little Burgundy district back in the day it would be Montreal's black mecca. Instead it's being gentrified now and CAC hipsters are taking over.
Isn't the same thing happening in Scarborough?
The original AA inhabitants went back to the USA where the money was (or maybe had to leave after there was no work??? I don't know), and the "new nikkas" don't have a connection to the original history enough to care. Remittances and other things are more important.
LB was an AA neighborhood...then caribbeans came...we vanished...then it just broke up into nothing. I saw what happened to the "negro center"...I was also trying to help with the youth programs. Shout outs to DESPA. There was conflict between English speaking black folks, french speaking black folks, and muslim "new arrivals".
I had to keep a staff member from fighting one of the kids, and bro was only 3 years younger than me.
It is what it is. Brehs had a screening of Hidden Colors, too...Youth Center/Studio. A lil park.
