This question popped into my mind after a verbal sparring that took place on Twitter. There was a discussion about AA's wearing Dashiki's and other African garb to the premier of Black Panther that somehow dissolved into AA's not knowing their culture or having to get in tune with their culture.
This raised the question in my mind....why does everyone single out AA's specifically in the whole diaspora regarding this?
Jamaicans, Trinidadian's, Brazilians, and etc are all the descendants of slaves too....yet I never hear anyone tell them that they don't "know their culture" or anything along those lines. Everyone seems to respect the identities that Caribbeans and etc have carved for themselves, but the same can't be said for AA's.
I'm not saying it's a bad thing to try and get in touch with whatever African roots you may have, but people just don't seem to respect the fact that AA's have carved out their own unique identities the same way other diasporic groups of Black people have
