as someone who doesn't hold much stock in the value of white american award ceremonies anyway, you using them as the sole barometer in determining the quality of actors says to me that you have no knowledge regarding the issue.
You wouldn't be saying that if your people were the ones holding up those statues.

If being classically trained is the reason foreign actors are getting roles why aren't the classically trained American ones getting the same opportunities?:jbhmm:

Page Kennedy(who gets typecast mainly in stereotypical roles) is Shakespearean trained and has a degree in theater.

Why isn't he getting lead roles?:jbhmm:

Why isn't he getting the same opportunities as those foreign actors?:jbhmm:

Doing stage work in after school programs as a kid doesnt make them great actors tho... The problem with alot of these brit actors is they have all that training but they are too refined for American roles, they don't have any natural skill or experience and it shows. This is why in a movie like Queen & Slim you have an actor like Bokeem Woodbine... a guy who.isnt known for giving strong performances stealing entire scenes from the 2 classically trained non American leads in Kaluya and Smith.

Daniel Day Lewis hasn't done stage since the 80s after getting bad reviews... and he's considered one of the best actors in the world.

Half of the main characters in the wire are British lmaoo

Not for nothing and UK brehs can confirm this but I was watching John Boyega on hot ones and he said theater and the arts are tied in with after school programs in the UK so thats why a lot of British actors are getting on because they been doing that shyt since grade school

No they're not. There are specialist acting schools like every other country in the world.

If you watched UK TV you would see that the standard of acting is generally atrocious. The most popular shows here are things like Eastenders & Coronation Street.

Shows like Top Boy, Line of Duty etc. are definitely the exception.

Chadwick Boseman... and he's the most talented of that bunch IMO.

I believe that could make a difference because especially the last 20 years they've cut ALL the electives and extracirriculars out of the city schools in the USA. Kids don't get to do music in any serious way, kids don't get to do theatre until high school at the earliest and even that is devalued or absent at a lot of schools. It's pretty much straight academics and sports as the only things getting any funding.

mum & cheers :deadmanny::deadrose::dead:

these Brit actors are basically doing American black face :camby:
It's called acting. :gucci:

Denzel Washington was from a private school in New York but some of his first big roles were as a South African activist, a British soldier, a Caribbean police chief, a Confederate slave, and a Mississippi carpet cleaner.

Forrest Whittiker's most acclaimed role was playing Idi Amin. One of Morgan Freeman's biggest roles was playing Nelson Mandela.

Imagine if Sidney Poitier had only been allowed to play characters from the Bahamas his whole career. :snoop:

American actors don't know how to tread the boards.

It's that simple.

No American actor can do this .. If you think so name the scene and the actor.

Classic Classics.

Remember chaps this is the same person.

False. Not all those movies are American. Sarafina is South African. Last King of Scotland is a UK and German production. Cry Freedom is a British-South African production. Catch A Fire, UK and American production.

:camby:

it’s apples to oranges
all those are American Hollywood films -
whatever’s the equivalent to Hollywood in the UK (they can pick any actors they want in their films & we wouldn’t have a problem))

Those are American movies for American audiences.

no one gives a shyt if a black Brit plays an American in the UK. This point seems to keep flying over people’s head.

Actually no, the films are not made for American audiences. They’re made for international audience. Why do you think screen tests happen the world over? Why do you think there are international film festivals? Why do you think actors do press tours world wide?Studios are trying to make as much money as possible, so sorry to break it to you. Movies are made with international appeal and they target as many countries as possible. And as I mentioned before not all the films in that post are American films, you just assumed they are. Just like you assumed studios are really gonna skip billions of dollars to make movies solely for American audiences. In fact, the influx of superhero movies in Hollywood is due to them being super popular in China.

The film industry is international and Hollywood is the centre, so naturally actors of all kinds will flock.
