I'm thinking Vince in Toronto was a bigger star than Melo was on any team.
In Vince's peak he was going head to head with Iverson in the playoffs and was a house hold name along with AI, Shaq and Kobe

Imma go with melo. The only year felt Carter was up there with the best in the NBA was in 2001 where Melo had like 4 seasons of that
Carter was better at his peak but his prime didn't last as long.
First 9 years:
Vince: 24.1 / 5.4 / 4.1 on 53.5 TS%, most in the dead ball era
Melo: 24.7 / 6.3 / 3.1 on 54.4 TS%
Vince was 3 years older (22 years old rookie) and took a reduced role afterwards, Melo's 9th year was 2011-2012 so some of his best years were still ahead

Carter was the best player during that 2000 Olympics for the US team.
I feel like people always ignore that or fail to mention it when bringing up his overall lack of success. The USA lost I think 4 tournaments and didn't win another gold for 8 years after the 2000 Olympics.
I dont know if thats enough to push the argument in Vince's favour, it probably shouldn't be, but he was the best player on a championship team.
