This is intellectually dishonest

Kendrick Nunn was the best player on the team that just won the Euroleague. If he signed with the Pistons today, who’ve been the worst team in the NBA for the last 3-4 years, can you even confidently say he would crack their rotation?

This is not the equivalent to Miss Texas declaring herself Miss Universe after winning Miss America. It’s the equivalent to the girl who finished 18th in the Miss Wyoming competition moving to Greece and winning Miss Greece, then the Greeks telling Miss USA she can’t call herself the best pageant winner until she beats her :skip:
You're being obtuse. It's very simple and has facsimiles in different sports.

Man City are the best team in England. Cool. They beat Europe's best in Champion's League. Cool.

Then they won this: FIFA Club World Cup - Wikipedia

They are the world's best club in football. It's demonstrable and proven.

Celtics won the NBA finals. Cool. There is no best in North America trophy, so they win by default.

But Sesi Franca won this: FIBA Intercontinental Cup - Wikipedia.

They are the world's best club in basketball. It's demonstrable and proven.

The current best national side can be Germany (FIBA) or the USA (Olympics). We can debate that.

But the best Basketball club is not the Celtics until they beat other clubs from other leagues.

This is a perfect opportunity for Silver to make the game even more global. This in season tournament is alright but it's still insular... which leads to fans reacting the way they are to Lyles' comments.

fukk a banner meant to get a city's fans swept up. I don't give a fukk what they call themselves. The NBA does NOT call the finals winner world champions.
I think you need to rewatch what he originally said.

“You know what hurts me the most is that I have to watch the NBA Finals and they have ‘world champion’ on their head. World champion of what? The United States? Don’t get me wrong. I love the U.S. — at times — but that ain’t the world. That is not the world. We are the world. We have almost every country out here fighting, thriving, putting on their flag to show that they are represented. There ain’t no flags in the NBA. We gotta do more. We gotta be presented to the world.”

There are literally teams with world championship hats on their heads. If you want to argue semantics about whether or not the NBA sanctions these hats and shirts, go ahead. But what he said is a literal fact. Teams have NBA "world champions" on their heads. It's not factually or logically accurate.

If you hate the guy, that's fine. But his argument isn't new or illogical....which is why I'm concerned so many people don't get it.

I don’t give a fukk what teams in their marketing and advertising to their fans call themselves to get them swept up. :camby: The NBA formally does not call its finals, winners world champions.

I asked chatGPT to save some time.

Me: Does the NBA call its winners world champions? Why and for how long? Cite sources

AI:
Yes, the NBA refers to its winners as "world champions." This terminology has been used since the league's inception. The rationale behind this designation stems from the fact that the NBA is widely considered the premier basketball league globally, attracting top talent from around the world.

The practice dates back to the first NBA Finals in 1947 when the Philadelphia Warriors won the inaugural championship and were referred to as world champions. The tradition has continued ever since, reflecting the NBA's dominant status in professional basketball globally .

For more detailed sources:

2. [History of NBA championships](https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nba/news/nba-champions-full-list-winners-years/k5qi9s6h8a3z1phso0k0mp79b)

So I guess, the NBA does and did. :hubie:

The NBA Finals were last officially referred to as the "NBA World Championship Series" in 1985. In 1986, the league changed the name to the "NBA Finals," which has been used ever since

I’m being obtuse but you’re claiming after beating a team led by Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, the Celtics need to beat a team led by Kendrick Nunn and Juancho Hernangomez to prove they’re the actually the best team in the world? :dead:

Like I said before, y’all are throwing common sense out the window just to cling to a technicality

Now you're saying the title of the series isn't called the world championship...which no one argued was the case.

You're moving the goal posts. Lyles' comments weren't about what the finals are called, it's about what its winners are called; they call themselves world champions. With or without Adam Silver's blessing. That is the fact here. That is what Lyles...and many, many other people had and have pointed out.

Just put the feelings aside for a moment and look at things objectively. I'm an NBA fan and even I can see truth in what he said. Even Giannis agreed, most international players probably would.

There really isn't truth. Because the NBA has the best 500 or so players in the world.

The champions of these other leagues are led by players who are in the 200-500 caliber.

The Celtics would sweep any other division team. It's pointless.

How is that "insecurity?" Insecurity is uncertainty or anxiety about oneself; lack of confidence.

Saying a niqqa should stay on code is "and uncertainty or anxiety about oneself; lack of confidence."

How the fukk does that even make sense?

Ngga :what: yes, literally :laff:

‘Stay on code’?!? Did you really just type that. If you feel the need to ‘stay on code’ it means your are concerned about the overall optics or ramifications in a conversation. So much so that you are trying to dictate OTHER people’s words. Yes, that is anxiety. Yes, that is insecurity

If you were secure in your stance, you wouldn’t need to control any narrative

To put it in an example you may be more familiar with, women on the net will ‘stay on code’ and call ALL women beautiful and never weight-shame. You can show a 400lb woman and they will “stay on code” and say she doesn’t need to lose weight she’s fine as is. :comeon:That is rooted in insecurity

Like gotdamn im not even cuttin jokes anymore I’m helpin you heal brotha .

Yes. That is literally the point of competition.

Do you think the French football team fears Mongolia? Of course not. But if they're in the same tournament to determine who's the best in the world, they will beat the shyt out of them and get a trophy to prove it. That's how competition works.

We all know the NBA is a better league. The Champs lose nothing from competing with other Champs to be world Champs. If anything, they gain more fans worldwide.

The problem is the NBA champions are officially declared World Champions despite playing domestically. Thats where the crux of the argument lies, colloquially they can be, but officially, No. What sense is there in calling them World National Basketball Association Champion
They're “officially” declared by the NBA? What other acknowledgement is there that has everyone upset? Are their parades in other countries for the Celtics?
