AD DAHELL
bro WHAT

AD is a top 4-5 player in the league, you smokin crack.

:francis: This is what I'm talking about. I don't think he's had enough success to be considered a top 5 player. What has AD done to be considered better than KD, Kawhi, LeBron, Harden, Steph, or Giannis? He's about to eat as LeBron's sidekick, but his resume as the top dog is underwhelming.

He's definitely better than Giannis on both sides of the ball.

He's being discussed as an all time great player based on three seasons of superstar level performance.

The narrative is that Kawhi carried the Raptors to a championship, even though they had an entire rotation of good-great defenders who could space the floor and produced six different double digit scorers in the Finals. Raptors going 17-5 without him in the RS allowed him to load manage without the team losing HC advantage.

Key word - teams. Championships are a team effort and not individual. It's revisionist history to call the 2014 Spurs a team led by Leonard, and the Raptors of this past year had strong support around him.
Its all about the ship and he got 2 of em quick. Being a good piece and a good teammate with good stats and tbh, Lowry aint gettin no rings without him

Could same the same vice versa. Could also say Kawhi isn't winning a ring this year if it were Pascal who got injured and not Klay Thompson.

It's all about the title from a franchise perspective, I agree. But when we compare players to each other it doesn't make much sense to use championships and FMVP's when they're so dependent on context and luck. Kawhi isn't better than AD because he has 2 FMVPs and 2 championships, but that's the first argument that'll be made when the two are compared.

Right now Kawhi's resume is being used as evidence that he's better than players who have had less team success. And that makes him overrated.

There's also the reputation of his defense. The lone stopper for Giannis even though Pascal gave him major fits too and Gasol was vital to the Raptors strategy. A top defender in the league even though his teams regularly perform well defensively when he's not on the floor. Kawhi didn't have a great defensive series in the Finals but the Raptors still had success b/c their defense was never build around him and they had a full rotation of guys who were good-great defensively, something you almost never see in the NBA.
