No the clock starts as soon as you file. Not sure how long the wait is now with these Va cuts but I filed in Sept for mental health. Got my cmp exams on October. Then after that it’s the waiting game.

I think the mental health cmp exams are scheduled quicker because they are usually done using telehealth. Easier to schedule. Other stuff you have to see a doc in person will be a little longer for the exams.
I’m already diagnosed by the VA with ptsd and depression. Would I still need a C&P for it?

Also, I should have added eczema and scarring. Eczema is in my files.
:snoop:
I think I could get 50% for my back and sleep apnea. Eczema would have put me over the top. Can I still add those or I have to wait?

You know the military saying.. trust but verity.. that’s why… but the reality of it is this.. fukk what’s in your file breh… all claims gotta be evaluated … and it’s 2 diff departments of the VA… the medical side and the evaluation side don’t talk to each other … so while the medical side aka the side that your primary care doc has your info and shyt like that has diagnosis… the evaluation side doesn’t see that side nor do they look at it UNTIL a claim is filed and they do a claim and a DBQ is filed out .. that is the form that will give the evaluation side of the VA a medical opinion.. to confirm what the medical side of the Va says… and you can only hope they confirm all diagnosis…, but it all has to be on that DBQ… you don’t necessarily need a C&P exam for that DBQ tobe done… which is why sometimes vets put in claims and their is no exam… cuz what happens is the VA evaluation side will send your records to a doctor for evaluation and have that doctor fill out the DBQ questionnaire based on what’s in your records and that doctors professional opinion… and they send the DBQ back to the VA.. but if after reviewing your records they can’t form an opinion … the doc is supposed to call you and ask you questions ..IF YOU DONT PICK UP when they call… then he puts in whatever his opinion is and this sometimes is how vets gets fukked…which is why I always say.. even if you don’t get a C&P exam … find out when your records will be evaluated … so you can know when to expect that call… IF.. the doctor reviewing your record has a question…

Now back to your other stuff… you will only get anything for sleep apnea if you’ve been diagnosed with it AND been prescribed a CPAP… if not… do that first.. see a sleep doc at the VA… do the sleep study… based on that… if you had sleep apnea… they will get you a CPAP… AFTER ALL THAT… then put in a claim for that… cuz you will need to upload the sleep study as part of your claim…

Now onto the eczema … I got the max you can get for that … which is 60%… got mine tied with my shaving waiver shyt.. how bad is your stuff?

You can also possibly get more from just your back alone.. because the back affects so many other parts of your body.. so many other secondary conditions can be claimed from just your back.., I’ll be here if you need help breh

That’s crazy. Appreciate the info.
:salute:
Like you said, nothing is guaranteed. That’s kinda scary but I will be ready. I did get the sleep study, diagnosed, and have a machine. Glad I did all of that first. I haven’t got insomnia added though, nor did I claim it.

Either way, I’m on the road. Hopefully, I get the 90% and try to add on later from there. I appreciate all the knowledge from this thread and I hope to add to it as well.

1. You may or may not need a c&p exam for ptsd and depression. Let me tell you what I did. It’s what pushed me from 90% to 100% which is the hardest hurdle. I set up a appt with a psychiatrist with the Va. I assume if you have been diagnosed you are seeing one. If not set up that appt. Get it documented and get meds. If you do get the c&p exam for mental health remember…. Be OPEN. EXTREMELY OPEN. Vets have a tendency to downplay their symptoms. Resist that. They will listen but remember they want to see how it affects your life and relationships. Also if you do truly have suicidal ideations of course mention that. But if you do that other things start getting in motion and they will work to get you help asap.

2. Definitely file for eczema. Like @DeeezNuts i am maxed out at 60% for it. Other than my 70 for mental health it is my biggest percentage. Overall Eczema is my most valuable because I was able to tie so much to it as secondaries

I tied insomnia to it. Stated that I wake up at night scratching and get get back to sleep

I tied my mental health ratings ( mental health is all combined ). Stated my depression, anxiety, and Somatic Symptom Disorder were based from my eczema. The skin disorder affects my mental state

3. I attempted to tie in scarring from my eczema. I got denied. I appealed and got denied again. You can always try. It does not hurt. But I was told that even though technically the scarring is from a service connected disability the Va in general considers scars from burns, surgeries, wounds etc. not from eczema

Had a Higher Level Review yesterday. I laid out all the errors that VA made in my decision for my shoulder. They basically discounted 5 medical record from the military that said I had a torn rotator cuff and bone spurs. It was a black woman who was doing my claim. After I went through everything she said she will see if she can approve it on her own. If I can get 30% that will get me to 100. At the very least I get sent back to a C&P which would help me becuase my range of motion is trash.

I'm currently at 30% for PTSD. I have an appt to see my primary doctor in 2 weeks to get a referral for my BH specialist.

I drafted a letter requesting an increase.

Tell me how it looks:

I have it letter format with a heading and signature, and it's broken down into short paragraphs.

I am writing this in reference to my current disability benefits for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

I am currently experiencing more night terrors, hot flashes, and anxiety, both at home and in the workplace. I am more withdrawn from family members and friends. These issues have led to attendance concerns while at work.

I respectfully request that my PTSD benefit increase be considered with the understanding of the impact that these experiences have had on my mental health and overall well-being. Thank you for your time and consideration on this matter.

I don’t think you can request and increase… an exam and your medical history will determine that… so as far this … the best way to increase your PTSD rating is going to mental health … ill do bi weekly…. Do this for a few months… then put in for a new exam… so your new exam combined with your history will determine a new rating … cuz If just requesting an increase by a letter was a thing.. then shyt everyone will be making request

You need to look at the CFR and see how your symptoms match the requirements for percentage levels. If your symtoms don't match the 50% or higher then you won't get anything. A letter is good but be detailed. I have night terrors 5 nights a week.my anxiety at work has cause me X problems. I get hot flashes X times a day. I have been written up at work for being late. I stopped attending family events because I have been withdrawn, I frequently decline my friends requests to hang out. Lay it all out honestly . It's hard to admit what you may feel but you have too. Also get treatment to help document this stuff.

man you can write whatever letter matching the CFR all you want... IF THIS IS NOT DOCUMENTED...by your medical records or an exam...it means nothing...cuz anyone can look up info in the CFR and match symptoms to CFR.. its a lost cause breh...he needs to have this documented...i've been down this road...didnt work...i got hip to the game and then did the route i mentioned.... but hey... let breh try and see whats up
