Haven't read through the thread so maybe im missing something but if Desantis is the Republican nominee you think the MAGA crowd is just going to stay home and hand Biden another 4 years? Everyone falls in line on both sides of the aisle.

Look at the 2016 and 2020 elections and down ballot and compare that to the midterms during that time.

Im pretty sure Desantis's favorables among Republican voters were higher than Trump's a few months back (they still might be). Repubs genuinely like him a lot, they just like Trump more.

But Trump is also a lunatic who might be facing 4 indictments come December. He's noticeably crazier than he was in 2016, and some of his policy proposals this time around, more than the last time, are batshyt crazy.

There’s a section of rural white voters that were not consistent voters until Trump ran for president. These are the MAGA I’m referring too
Republicans outperform expectations in 2016 and 2022 because they showed up to vote for Trump
Democrats outperformed expectations in 2018, the special elections in Georgia in 2021 and 2022 because these maga voters didn’t show up because Trump wasn’t on the ballot
These voters are not going to show up to vote for desantis just because he’s republican. They only care about Trump and Desantis isn’t trump no matter how much he tries to be. No one is Trump
