Bates has a negative wingspan and small hands. He might be good offensively(as you stated he played college ball at 17 last year) but he's probably gonna be a net negative on defense. Those athletic measurables are not what you want from a prospect.

I'm not advocating anything crazy for him. A late first-round if his efficiency holds wouldn't be the worst reach (even better if you get him in the second). I don't expect him to become a great defender, but the kid has genuine scoring talent.
