Gimme that Mavs pick around 10 where we can maybe get Anthony Black (jumbo playmaker) or Jarace Walker (monster-sized forward) and still take a flier on a sophomore like this FO loves to do...Emoni Bates or Terquavian Smith types depending on what shakes out with trades and all.
Do not get the Bates hype…

He fits the “highly touted prospect that underachieved as a freshman” thing that this FO loves. Dude was getting top-prospect hype for a while.

He’s got good size (I think his frame can take on some solid weight and strength). His scoring ability is legit. And he looks like he really worked on his game after struggling last year.

It’s also notable that he was really young even for a freshman.

I’m not advocating for a top-ten pick on Bates or anything drastic. But if you can take a flier on him in the 20-30 range, with a trade down that nets an additional future asset. That’s the type of move our FO tends to enjoy. They get to have their cake and eat it too; grab a prospect and also maintain options in the future.

Recap is up. Some signs of improvement, important players are looking healthier, and Jalen Brunson is real. But they’re a quarter into the season, below .500, and out of the play-in tournament as it stands. They’re running out of time to prove themselves before the front office has to act for their own self-preservation.

I think they are tanking:hubie:

The main concern I have is does that pick stay a first rounder next year.

I really like Anthony Black. Like it's early but I feel the game. I don't know if the knicks got the luck or intelligence to get him.

The clippers are looking to improve their roster. They could use several of our players, Julius Randle included. I don't know what they have that we would want though.

Math doesn't add up well and outside of PG and Kawhi it's just swapping role players.

Bates has a negative wingspan and small hands. He might be good offensively(as you stated he played college ball at 17 last year) but he's probably gonna be a net negative on defense. Those athletic measurables are not what you want from a prospect.

Bates won't go in the lottery but breh is showing he can be a skilled iso scorer. Considering how young he was when he took those measurements there's a good chance he'll grow more and his wingspan will even out. Even if he doesn't grow I think Bates is worth a flier in the second; he'll never be worth a damn on defense if he never grows though.
