I think what’s hurting Barrett is Cam Reddish and Julius Randle and I don’t mean hampering Barrett game.

Cam Reddish has not only won Thibs over he’s starting to become a player Thibs really relies on. Not only that, Cam improvement particularly on defense has been staggering. So it begs the question how is Cam improving so much but not RJ?

Secondly Julius. When we brought in Brunson the purpose of Brunson was to improve the offense (he’s done that) but the improvement between Julius and Barrett is also telling. I believe Julius is +8 from last year in true shooting and +4 from his all nba season. Prior to last night game Barrett T.S was still 51 (same as last year) so there has to be something here. They both play heavy minutes with Brunson and Barrett shots are easier.

It puts Barrett in a tough light.
I'd just give it time. RJ's shooting like trash from three and once that gets sorted, he'll be fine. He has good chemistry with Cam imo.

Julius' TS improvement seems like a case of shot selection. He stopped chucking so many long two-pointers.

Barrett's in a tough light because people want Luka and he's not gonna be that. Dude was ready to keel over at the end of the Utah game.

There's the building blocks to a good team here, but it's painfully obvious it needs a top end talent to get there. None of the guys currently on the roster are that.
Yeah, they need a true number one. Brunson has been REALLY good, good enough to keep this squad in there against teams in the middle to good range. But not good enough to overcome the legit great squads or any time a player goes into star mode.

They have the pieces to put a package together and still have enough to be really good. Now the problem is a star has to actually become available and they have to be willing to pay the price.

You can’t trade him he is a poison pill. Plus what value is he building with his current play. It was a perfect time to try

Brunspn
Grime
Reddish
Randle
Hart
It made no sense how they handled RJ there. I just assume this is all buying Grimes' foot more time to heal to keep from getting too annoyed with Thibs because certain guys are taking real steps (Cam and IQ mainly...IQ's defense has taken a leap I never expected).

Sam Amico says the Knicks are among the teams interested in Jae Crowder...I can't see it.
Jae salary is 9.7 million so the only person in that area is foutnier (14 million) and Rose (12 million). I doubt Thibs allows Rose to leave and Fournier may not be good enough for Phoenix

Yeah, Fournier came to mind right away but I assume we'd have to dress that trade up with an asset, plus I haven't checked Phoenix's cap situation but i assume they'd want to cut costs rather than increase after matching Ayton.

Now that you mention Rose, I could see Phoenix having some interest there. But like you said, that's Thibs' guy. So it's tough to picture New York pulling the trigger there.

The KFS dudes usually hop on rumors and put together cap-realistic trade possibilities, so maybe they'll do something for this one. But I also wonder if NY was inquiring about Crowder before Cam stepped up his defense and might change their mind. There's a lot of guys around that could eat up minutes at either Forward spot now, so a PG to add another F is still tricky for me to figure out.

...I do like the idea of having a defense-first PF option to be fair.
