I don't really disagree. He signed the big deal, and the Thunder don't really need to trade him (they're probably a lottery team regardless). But my typical belief is that where there's smoke, there's fire. It might be wishful thinking, but when execs start circling a situation I tend to wonder if there's something we don't know. Sometimes it's nothing, sometimes it's something. Beal to Boston had a lot of hype and was a bust. But then Mitchell to New York turned out real.

It's always 50/50 to me.

The Mitchell situation was a bit different because Mitchell was never Ainge's guy. Ainge came in, saw a team that had hit a low ceiling with two players on massive contracts and decided to start all over. OKC is still trending up as a team.

I'm only comparing the rumors and whispers from insiders. The situations are definitely different, and Shai is carrying that squad right now at a level where they'd probably only trade him for another Paul George return (aka waaaaay too much for any single player unless it's maybe Giannis or Luka).

Cleveland's got a nice winning streak to look forward to, but for perspective they're a half-game ahead of the Knicks. The Hawks are a game ahead. Those squads are better by a comfortable margin, so no cap here. But this team isn't so far away from their level that a nice trade couldn't help close the gap.

We're 15 games into the season and the Knicks have kept their head above water which isn't the worst thing in the world. If a star shakes loose at the trade deadline, this team has depth to make a nice package while keeping a competitive rotation. They have one too many wings, one too many C's, and two PF's that need minutes.

Rose won't tank (which I'd still kinda prefer), but if the asset hording turns into a star at the trade deadline or this coming offseason, then I think Rose's tenure could wind up being a legit success.

There's the building blocks to a good team here, but it's painfully obvious it needs a top end talent to get there. None of the guys currently on the roster are that.

I think what’s hurting Barrett is Cam Reddish and Julius Randle and I don’t mean hampering Barrett game.

Cam Reddish has not only won Thibs over he’s starting to become a player Thibs really relies on. Not only that, Cam improvement particularly on defense has been staggering. So it begs the question how is Cam improving so much but not RJ?

Secondly Julius. When we brought in Brunson the purpose of Brunson was to improve the offense (he’s done that) but the improvement between Julius and Barrett is also telling. I believe Julius is +8 from last year in true shooting and +4 from his all nba season. Prior to last night game Barrett T.S was still 51 (same as last year) so there has to be something here. They both play heavy minutes with Brunson and Barrett shots are easier.

It puts Barrett in a tough light.
