Simmons made the case for trading for Ayton on his pod today. He undervalued the hell out of Mitch though. Basically said Mitch is a tier 4 center while Ayton is probably the 6th best center in the league (the top of tier 2) depending on how good Wemby is right away. Said the Knicks could offer IQ, Fournier and Mitch for Ayton. Said he’d do Brogdon and Robert Williams for Ayton but the Celtics wouldn’t.
Mitch and Williams>≥>> Ayton, Bill Simmons is tweaking. Of course the Celtics wouldn't do that and neither would the Knicks. I don't understand why Ayton keeps getting overrated like this, hell I don't understand why OUR assets keep getting underrated like this.

We would be complaining about Ayton's effort within a month of him playing, guaranteed.

Y’all Knicks fans would
really entertain a Zion trade?
Hypothetically speaking
Entertain it? Absolutely. Gotta kick the tires and see what kinda package they'd expect in return. But I'd need to see the deal before I commit to anything. I don't think his health concerns are going anywhere regardless of motivation.

It’d be an all time gamble. Like legit bottom of the 9th, bases loaded with 2 outs and 2 strikes type of swing. But dude was a legit top 10 player in the league 2 seasons ago before getting hurt. I probably wouldn’t do it cause I think we could still put together a contender with Randle.

Ayton’s upside is significantly higher than theirs though. Like SIGNIFICANTLY. He could be a 24 and 12 guy easily with the right motivation. But that caveat is why he’d be so cheap. I probably don’t do it but I don’t think it’s crazy to think he could stand to use a change of scenery like Zion.

Grabbed this stat-pull off a poster on Realgm, because it's got both the case for and against LaVine in one place.

Since 2019-2020 there are 3 players who averaged 25PPG, 60% TS and 39% 3PT: Curry, Kyrie and LaVine

Games Played: Curry (188) Kyrie (163) LaVine (262)

Curious to dive into his on/off splits and which player combinations were positive or negative. What’s sort of puzzling is that when the Bulls were 46-36 in 21-22 he was a -26 in sixty seven games. For this 40-42 Bulls team he was a +18 this past year. Such a hyper efficient scorer but seemingly no impact.

His efficiency has been pretty crazy, and I really think he looked like a different player at the end of this past season compared to most of his post-injury time. But his on-court impact doesn't really show up in the on-off splits like you'd expect from a player putting up those big numbers. That's scary considering his contract and injury history.

Another reason I don't think they move RJ. Breh is good, but not gut your team good. Send them the draft picks, send them Obi and Rokas, give them a mix of Knicks and protected picks. It's a fair deal
Exactly! The value of PG is that his age and injury history ought to deflate his price. If the Knicks added PG without giving up any of last season's starters, then they'd have plenty of room to rest PG as needed in the regular season. That leaves plenty of minutes to continue developing the wing prospects in the regular season. By playoff time, you'd have a co-star for Brunson in PG; but hopefully also one of RJ or Grimes takes another leap and/or Randle finally gets it together for a postseason run.

Other star trades feel like they'll be home run swings with a ton of assets attached. But PG might be had on the cheap.

Ayton is like a 4th-5th best player on a contender type of player. If you sign him to be in your big 3 he's not that skilled

Zion's pretty much unguardable when healthy and playing, but he's never healthy and playing - he also doesn't seem to take his fitness and conditioning all that serious.

I'd understand the logic behind trading for him but also have to realize that it has a high probability of going bad

You get it.

People are sleeping but if they can pull that (and everything points to that being their goal) they could be contenders next year

Brunson/IQ
Grimes/Hart
PG/RJ
Randle/PG
Mitch/IHart

Is a contending team. The first one the knicks have had since the 90’s and they just got to hope for some luck. However, look at the Nuggets, MPJ and Murray are both serious injury risks, to the point it's a stretch to say they can be a dynasty but they still got that Championship.
