We're really out here jumping out the window on this shyt.
A couple years back in one of the most point guard heavy drafts, when we're starting Elfrid fukking Payton and have a carousel of trash lead guards over the years and needed a fukking lead guard, we draft Obi Toppin in the lottery to be a back up to our "franchise" player as opposed to any of the fukking lead guards that were available at that slot.
Fast forward a few years and in a wing heavy draft, when we are in need of a big wing, we find ourselves with no picks and now the fan base, so desperate to fill that gap, are salivating over older, injury plagued, never won shyt wings and even deluding ourselves into saying some shyt like a Thibodeau coached team would load manage a player.
Now, in retrospect, I don't doubt for a second the front office even back then knew they were making a push for Brunson when they did and decided against drafting a point guard of the future in Brunson's favor, but to not have a shot at any of these wings in this wing loaded draft is damn near criminal and I really hope they're trying to make up for the Obi mistake and are cooking up something to get into the first round for a wing so we're not out here hoping for the ghost of Paul George.
In this league, with the wing position being what it is, we really should be trying our hand at getting youth in that slot, not guys with nearly a decade or more in the league, pushing, at, or past 30. We haven't exactly had the best track record with aging stars and we'd probably be better off without them at this point.
I think getting another bucket getter should definitely be a focus this off season, but when it comes to wings, given the abundance on cheap, team controlled contracts this draft, let's hope they forgo all that and grab one on the cheap from the draft and/or free agency and save those assets for something else.
Respectfully, my guy.
