Nah. They’re pretty even offensively. Even if you want to give Mitchell the nod there (I dont, Booker plays within his teams offense more) defensively there’s a much larger gap.
Both those guys are lackadaisical defenders for the majority of their careers. At one point or another both have ranked as among the worst defenders in the league.

Mitchell this season is having a better defensive season by practically every metric even tho it’s very early.

Mitchell also has a stronger track record of defensive play collegiately up to his sophomore NBA season where he ranked as a solid defender.

Booker has almost always been ranked as a poor defender and now that the Suns are contenders the narrative is shifting. He can be stout in point of attack and has good strength and competitiveness it’s an area of improvement but his off-ball defense has always been bad with tendencies to ball watch and get back doored, poor screen navigation and floor mapping, leaving shooters, etc. He’s also not a guy that gets a lot of stocks or deflections. This stuff is minimized with strong defenders around him and scheme.

The narrative that Booker has a large defensive gap over Mitchell is head scratching and could only be justified with oh but he’s 6’5.

If I’m being honest I wouldn’t want either defending a tough assignment. Booker lacks the length and foot speed and Mitchell is short. Overall when fully engaged I think Mitchell can do more defensively and bring more impact in a team context because of his athleticism while Booker can be more trusted in one-on-one situations and in transition defense.

If it’s offense I think Mitchell is a better offensive hub and his performances in the playoffs show he is harder to contain. I think he is a better kick out passer and puts more pressure on defenses where as D-Book can settle for long twos and doesn’t handle doubles and traps well.

It’s actually insane the boost Booker has gotten perception wise once he started playing with CP3. :mjlol:

I mean, Gobert literally begged Mitchell to play defense like Booker publicly last year…

So what? Those two were beefing at that time. Even in Gobert’s quote he mentioned Booker’s improvement over the years where as Mitchell went through a defensive regression due to carrying their offense. It’s no surprise Booker’s defensive reputation started increasing once the quality of defenders and scheme around him improved and his offensive burden was decreased with CP3’s game managing. Now we’re seeing the same exact thing on the Cavs with Mitchell with his defense picking up.

If I was Mitchell I had said I wish Rudy could move his feet on the perimeter like Ayton. Maybe that way he wouldn’t be getting destroyed by Terence Mann and had 42 points dropped on him by god damn Ben Simmons.

It’s narratives and perceptions and then there’s facts.

Right, fact is Booker has been the better defender. Gonna be interesting to see what Mitchell’s defense looks like when Garland comes back…
