Brandon Sanderson is a super popular fantasy author that keeps things fairly PG/PG-13 in his books, can grab any of those but his most popular is the series called Mistborn. For African fantasy Tomi Adeyemi just finished her trilogy Children of Blood and Bone so could try that. For Young Adult Thrillers the series A Good Girls Guide to Murder is a fun read and has a netflix series coming out very soon so he might like reading it then watching the show to compare
