cops are also trained to use verbal commands and warnings to coerce compliance. it's a tool they use at their discretion just like the use of force.
She was resisting arrest bruh. You're upset because he wasn't asking her to comply while she was resisting enough? He asked her to put her hands behind her back. He already told her she was under arrest and she knew it.
there is no clear cut guideline on how much force to use when someone is "resisting". used quotes because police can incite people to respond in a non compliant way and your natural reaction is to protect yourself . like i said, i bet a drunk white woman in a white neighborhood would have been given more leeway even if she was acting more belligerent than this woman was. may even have let the white woman have her lawyer bring her down to the station. that white privilege type sh1t.
Police are mandated to use as much force as required to subdue the person resisting arrest. She was resisting arrest and he used force to procure the arrest. What exactly are you suggesting he should've done? He actually gave her a long ass period of leeway before the punch and the takedown.
dude has her bent over on her stomach on the trunk of the car to start with. pregnant women are going to do whatever they can to stay off their stomach so i can see why she started resisting. to say the impetus for her action was not the welfare of her child may not be as clear cut. i also agree she should have tried to calm down, but the cop could have helped that by standing her up or saying "look i don't want to bust your azz or hurt your baby so stop struggling."
He has her bent over the car to begin the video, not the beginning of the arrest and she was already resisting at that point. She obviously doesn't give a shyt about her baby because if she did, she would've simply stood there and allowed the cop to put the cuffs knowing she had a child in her stomach. Resisting arrest isn't exactly the best way to go about ensuring the safety of your unborn child.
it may look like i'm copping pleas for this chick and i am.
At least you're honest about it.
i don't ever trust the police to treat us with the same level of decency they treat different demographics, mainly rich white people. they're more likely to do something to escalate a situation with us than try to control it.
You have no argument from me there, but this particular incident is just about a lady acting stupidly and resisting arrest and does not necessitate being placed in some larger sociological context.
it also bugs me that the cop with all the training has a lower expectation than the person they're charged to serve and protect. sure she could have complied and made everything better, but the cop also could have taken the higher road and not bust her down like that. even if she complied who's to say he still would not have been on some fcuk sh1t just because he can. let's not act like they don't do that on the regular.
i also get the impression people care less about how this woman was treated because she has a gut and isn't good looking. not saying you in particular, but i get that vibe from some of these posts and that's some bullsh1t imo.
And once again I say the cop did exactly what he was supposed to do, and what he was trained and taught to do. That's why the police chief just blew the shyt off and didn't even say "We're going to review this, blah, blah, blah" like the cops usually say when a brutality case occurs, and why the cop conducted those actions knowing he was being filmed. If you resist you're arrest, you're going to get roughed up. So don't resist arrest. It's really nothing more to it than that.
